Revelation 9:20

And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

The chapter containing this verse foretells the fall of Ottoman power through two prophetic time periods, 150 years followed by 391 years and fifteen days, ending on August 11, 1840, when Ottoman power in Constantinople would be broken. The first period ended when Deacozes ascended the throne by permission of the Turks, and the 391 years and fifteen days began at the close of the first period. The prediction was exactly fulfilled when Turkey, through its ambassadors, accepted the protection of the allied powers of Europe, thereby ending its independence and placing itself under the control of Christian nations. This exact fulfillment convinced multitudes of the correctness of the principles of prophetic interpretation used in preaching the second advent and encouraged the Advent movement. The fulfillment gave a wonderful impetus to the Advent movement, so that from 1840 to 1844 the work rapidly extended.

The verse also reveals demon-worship in a vast multitude in the last days, when the whole world stands on the brink of perdition. Those worshipers do not see their danger, for a cloud of judicial wrath hangs over them containing the elements that destroyed Sodom. Their demon-worship stands in contrast to a separate company of God's commandment-keeping people who have the sign of the living God upon their foreheads.
