Revelation 9:4 belongs to a prophecy of the Ottoman Empire whose time periods can be calculated to an exact day. The first period of 150 years ended when Deacozes ascended the throne by permission of the Turks. The following period of 391 years and fifteen days then commenced and ran to August 11, 1840, when the Ottoman power in Constantinople was to be broken.
That breaking of Ottoman power took place when Turkey, through her ambassadors, accepted the protection of the allied powers of Europe and thereby placed herself under the control of Christian nations. This exact fulfillment in August 1840 proved the correctness of the principles of prophetic interpretation used in preaching the second advent. It gave a wonderful impetus by which that work rapidly extended from 1840 to 1844.
