Romans 10:11

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Anyone who puts faith in Christ will not be left shamed, confused, or disappointed. The offer is for all without difference of race, age, rank, or privilege, because the same Lord is generous to everyone who calls on Him for salvation. Such belief is wholehearted trust that commits everything to Jesus and His cleansing blood, joined with open confession as the world's only hope. Confidence stands on His complete atoning sacrifice and faithful promise, received by faith to give peace through the righteousness that alone qualifies for heaven. Those who so trust stand firm for what is right without defeat, and are sent to carry the good news so others may hear, believe, call, and be saved.

Universal Promise to Believers

Whosoever means everyone who believes on Christ will not be put to shame, confounded, or disappointed. Belief in Him is the world's only hope, and faith in Him is joined with confession and salvation. Trusting in the Lord brings certainty because God's word cannot fail.

The promise is without distinction between Jew and Greek, and without distinction of age, rank, nationality, or religious privilege. The same Lord over all is rich, generous to all who call on Him, and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. All are invited to come to God and live.

Belief means committing all to Jesus without reservation, with faith in His efficacious blood as the only hope and stronghold. Confidence in Him rests on His faithful promise, signed and sealed with His own blood. Assurance rests on Christ's full and sufficient atoning sacrifice, received in faith to bring peace and cleansing as the Holy Spirit applies the truth about Jesus to the mind. It rests in the righteousness of Christ that alone entitles to the blessings reserved for the redeemed, and He as faithful Saviour is worthy of love for His name, His cross, and His Word.

Trust Lived and Shared

Relying on God's promises and standing firmly for Him and for what is right means never being put to shame nor defeated by the powers of earth and hell. Choosing worldly honor in order to avoid the reproach of Christ instead brings separation from God and loss.

Trusting the Lord for guidance brings a sure answer because His word cannot fail, so those who trust in Him will not be confounded or ashamed. In trial they can hear God's voice calling them to look to Jesus, the risen Saviour who is able and willing to save all who come to God through Him, and those who put their trust in Christ will not be confounded or put to shame. That trust gives assurance that He will place each person where they can serve, and those who trust in God will not be disappointed.

Even when the church has grown half-hearted and worldly until it is scarcely distinct from the world, there is encouragement because the grace of Christ is sufficient for all who believe in His name and truly trust Him, and they will not fail or be disappointed. Those who believe are doers of His words, to whom His name is precious, who maintain allegiance to Him and walk in humility and childlike dependence day by day and hour by hour. They learn meekness and lowliness of heart, follow Him in self-denial and cross-bearing, and no longer seek the honor and praise of men but love only the honor that comes from God.

The promise that everyone who believes will not be put to shame stands with no difference between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord over all is rich to all who call on Him and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. It belongs to all who call on the Lord, for the Lord is generous to all who call on Him, and it is joined to the sending and proclaiming of gospel messengers so that people may hear, believe, call on the Lord, and be saved. People cannot call without believing, cannot believe without hearing, cannot hear without a preacher, and preachers cannot preach unless they are sent to bring the gospel of peace and good tidings of good things.

His grace is available to those who answer His call with devoted, self-denying service. God will truly communicate with workers who deny self and lift the cross just as He did with Paul and Barnabas, who are representatives of what very many should become. Churches must therefore separate and ordain men and women as medical missionaries and send intelligent workers to untried fields instead of folding hands and expecting their committed work to be done by proxy.
