Paul Dictates His Letter to the Romansby emmanuel_higgins

Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. There is no difference between Jew and Greek in this promise, for the same Lord over all is rich and generous to all who call upon Him, without distinction of age, rank, nationality, or privilege. No one can call on Him without believing in Him, believe without hearing of Him, hear without a preacher, or have a preacher unless he is sent. Faith comes by hearing the word of God, yet the word preached does not profit those who hear unless it is mixed with faith in them. Those who know the truth must therefore carry it to those who have not heard, and the church must make God's saving health known to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people.

Salvation for All Who Call

Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, and this promise belongs to anyone and everyone who calls. Calling on Him rests on believing in Him, believing rests on hearing of Him, and hearing rests on a preacher who has been sent to proclaim the gospel, so those who know the truth are to help carry it to those who have not heard it. Those who preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things are blessed, and this work of proclaiming serves the salvation of souls.

There is no difference between Jew and Greek in this promise, for the same Lord over all is rich and generous to all who call on Him. Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed, and the same generosity reaches without distinction to Jew and Greek alike. God makes no distinction by age, rank, nationality, or religious privilege in the offer, but extends it to everyone. The gospel invitation is for every nation and class, and no one is to be passed by without hearing it, with proclamation wherever people are so that they may hear, believe, and call.

Calling on the name of the Lord is joined to believing with the heart unto righteousness and confessing with the mouth unto salvation. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, yet the word preached does not profit when it is not mixed with faith in those who hear it. The Lord helps every weak, doubting, struggling person who calls upon Him. He is ready to act for all who call upon Him in faith, including the youth and those seeking an education, and calling on Him is connected with receiving His help.

Believing Hearing and Preaching

No one can call on the Lord without believing in Him, no one can believe in Him without hearing of Him, no one can hear without a preacher, and no one can preach unless sent, so salvation for all who call requires sent preachers to proclaim the gospel. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The word preached does not profit those who hear it when it is not mixed with faith in them.

Those who criticize the messengers, point out defects in the message, and by criticism and evil surmising bar the word from good and honest hearts receive no blessing from it. Their refusal fulfills the word that not all have obeyed the gospel and that many did not believe the report. People who know the truth and the Word must share it and help carry it to those who have not heard, proclaiming the gospel wherever people are. This provision of preaching and this work of carrying the truth is God's appointed means and serves the salvation of souls.

The church is laid under the work of making God's way and saving health known on earth by giving to all nations, kindreds, tongues, and peoples the light of the knowledge of Jesus Christ, in whom is life eternal. It is to be as a light to the Gentiles for salvation to the ends of the earth. Christians and churches must unite and cooperate with the divine agency under the Holy Spirit, and pray the Lord of the harvest for laborers. Holy and devout men and women are to cultivate their powers and piety to the uttermost to be ordained and sent forth as missionaries and medical missionaries, and those who deny self and lift the cross will have God communicate with them as verily as He did with Paul and Barnabas.

Those who preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things have beautiful feet and are blessed. Their unselfish, self-sacrificing service helps people recognize the importance of obeying the truth.
