Romans 14:9

For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

Christ as man lived and died and rose and revived again for this purpose, that he might be Lord of both the living and the dead. His death in humanity was suffered in humanity's place, and by it human life was purchased. That purchase makes it possible for those who believe in him to receive eternal life and to attain immortality.

His lordship as the one who died and rose stands together with his humbling himself, taking the form of a servant in obedience unto death on the cross. It stands together with the Father loving the Son and giving all things into his hands. It stands together with its pleasing the Father that all fullness should dwell in him. It stands together with God highly exalting him and giving him a name above every name, so that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess to the glory of God the Father. It stands together with his creating all things in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, and holding all things together. It stands together with all the fullness of the Godhead dwelling bodily in him, so that believers are complete in him.

The verse shows that people belong to God and must give an account to him. Therefore the turning point of life requires surrendering the weight of mind and heart to whole-souled service to God on the Lord's side, rather than following one's own devising and refusing light.
