Phebe Hands Paul's Letter to Priscilla in Romeby emmanuel_higgins

Romans 16:3

Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:

Paul greets Aquila and Priscilla as his helpers and fellow workers in Christ Jesus. The greeting shows his care for the interests of his brethren and sisters. By naming Priscilla as a helper, it shows that women labored with Paul in the gospel and proves that the Lord has a work for women as well as men to do. As with Paul, Christ also had women who helped Him in presenting truth before others.

This good work for God is done by learning meekness in the school of Christ, bearing the name of Christ and possessing His Spirit, walking as He walked in purity, presenting the all-sufficiency of Jesus to benefit others, and following His example of self-sacrificing missionary work. Women who have the cause of God at heart can do this work in the districts where they reside and in ministering in unenlightened communities in regions beyond, awakening an interest and helping instruct families in the Word of God. The verse means Christians are to receive, assist, and entertain one another freely and with simplicity, so that hospitality and loving attention bind heart to heart and give brotherly love opportunity to live. Taking pay for entertaining brethren cuts off that love, while free, simple entertainment follows the heavenly Father giving of His bounty freely and Christ giving His life.
