Romans 2:25

For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

Circumcision truly profits only the one who keeps the law, and religious identity and knowledge of the law can never take the place of obedience. If one breaks the law, his circumcision is turned into uncircumcision and counts for nothing. Those who enjoy every privilege of knowing Bible truth yet fail to bring it into the inner sanctuary of the soul and practice it are circumcised in profession but uncircumcised in practice. They nominally accept the truth while refusing to put on Christ's righteousness, and they walk with the uncircumcised in covetousness. They will be destroyed together with the uncircumcised and will be spared no more than the worst sinner.

The verse rebukes those in God's service who rest in the law, boast of God, and claim to guide and teach others while themselves breaking the law. That breaking of the law appears in hasty temper, impatience, oppression, and judging the hearts of fellow workers. No person has been assigned to number Israel or to apply human measurement to a brother, since the one criticized may be more righteous in God's sight. For those living amid the perils of the last days, the verse calls for care in measuring a brother, heed to oneself, and putting no stumbling block in a brother's way.
