Romans 2:26

Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

Outward circumcision gives no standing before God apart from obedience, but if the uncircumcised keep the righteousness of the law their uncircumcision is counted for circumcision and they are counted among God's people. Outward privilege and profession are worthless without obedience, while obedience is counted as full standing. The converse is also true, that one who is called a Jew and boasts in the law yet breaks the law dishonors God and his circumcision is made uncircumcision. The true Jew is one inwardly, and true circumcision is of the heart in the spirit rather than outward in the flesh. The obedient outsider who fulfills the law by nature judges the professor who by letter and circumcision transgresses the law.

God counts a person not by outward profession but by practice. Those who nominally accept the truth yet do not live it and refuse to put on the robe of Christ's righteousness are, though professedly circumcised, in practice among the uncircumcised. They walk with the uncircumcised in covetousness, and will be destroyed with the uncircumcised and spared no more than the veriest sinner. In the last days the verse forbids judging and measuring ministering brethren, excluding them from fellowship, and presuming to read the heart, since the one found fault with may be more righteous in the sight of God. It calls each one to take heed to self, put no stumbling block in a brother's way, and work out personal salvation while God works to restore His moral image.
