Romans 3:17

And the way of peace have they not known:

The verse means that sinful humanity does not know how to live in peace, and that man's own way provides no peace or security. It is part of God's description of the present condition existing in the world and the church today, together with destruction and misery in human ways. That same description portrays universal unrighteousness in which none seek God or do good, and declares that there is no fear of God before their eyes. Lack of peace therefore belongs with destruction and misery in their ways as the present state of those without the fear of God.

This terrible condition has been brought about by making void the law of God. Those entrusted with the oracles of God have broken the law themselves, and through human tradition have taught others who would obey the light to do the same. Those who make laws and restrictions for others while they themselves do not obey the law of God are walking in their own way. By long practice in that way their reason becomes obscured and their conscience seared.

Those who seek happiness in pride and vain folly are ignorant of the way of life and peace. True peace and rest are found in Jesus. Prosperity and happiness are found in no other path than the way of the Lord. Wherever the peace of God reigns in the heart, there are the tenderness and love of Christ.

What Christians eat and drink has an important bearing on life and character and must be brought into conformity to the laws of nature from a sense of obligation to God. Obedience to the laws of health must be made a matter of earnest study, willing ignorance is sin, and each person has a personal obligation to carry out healthful living. Bodies and souls are bought with a price, the precious blood of Christ, so habits must be strictly guarded and controlled and fleshly lusts that war against the soul abstained from. Diligently heeding the soul-converting perfect precepts of the Word conforms a person physically and spiritually into the image of God.
