Ruth 1:16
And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Ruth's declaration is steadfast commitment to go with another, to join her people, and to serve her God. It shows Ruth the Moabitess turning from idolatry to the worship of the true God and uniting herself with His chosen people.
Her choice illustrates God's purpose to impart rich blessings to all peoples through Israel and to give the gospel invitation to all the world. Christ was to be uplifted before the nations through the teaching of the sacrificial service so that all who would look to Him should live. Israel was to increase in numbers and enlarge its borders as converts were added until its kingdom should embrace the world.
Her choice exemplifies how people from other nations who worshiped the true God were to unite with Israel. Her commitment represents the invitation for people of every nation to unite with God's people. The verse applies to people choosing to stand with true believers and to women who will teach a pure message to churches and other groups, whose hearers will respond with the same loyalty and commitment.
