Ruth 2:22
And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field. And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
The verse belongs to the brief, beautiful pastoral story of Ruth from the time of the judges, which closes by tracing the ancestry of the Lord Jesus, into which a Moabite woman is brought. In it Naomi advises Ruth her daughter-in-law to keep going out and gleaning with the maidens of Boaz, so that she will not be met or harmed if she goes into any other field but will remain safe where she is.
The harvest field of Boaz shows that it is not enough for some to cut down the grain, for others must bind it, with cutting meaning conviction of sin by the law and binding meaning gathering the vast amount of loose material and combining it in Sabbath-schools, prayer-meetings, missionary associations, and churches. That binding means going out with rakes to gather and bind up followers of Christ who have never been brought out, supplying the great lack of organization by dividing the army of God into companies, regiments, battalions, sharpshooters, artillerymen, infantry, sappers and miners. It means putting idle troops no longer held in reserve into action to take all the strongholds and castles of sin and to sweep the earth for King Immanuel.
