Ruth 3:15
Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city. Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
Ruth 3:15 belongs to the brief, beautiful, and wonderfully interesting pastoral story of Ruth. It is a little pastoral tale set in the time of the judges. It portrays Israelite home life.
The veil is the garment Ruth was wearing, which she held out to be used as a carrying cloth. When she held it, six measures of barley were laid upon it. This was in keeping with the custom of women in that region carrying loads in a cloth wrapped over the head and shoulders.
The verse stands within God's care for the promised Seed. By that care a Moabite woman was brought into the line that produces the ancestry of Jesus. The near kinsman in the book is a type of Christ.
