Titus 3:9
But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Foolish questions and genealogies and contentions and strivings about the law are to be shunned because they are unprofitable and vain. The foolish questions include noticing little things that do not agree with one's own mind and dwelling upon them. Giving heed to such little things genders strife and takes minds off the important work for the last days, a diversion by which Satan weakens believers and overthrows them.
Teachers who make the Word their book of study and do what it says will not seek for controversy and will not be tainted with bigotry. Instead they are to breathe a higher and purer atmosphere and stand in the clear light, exercising the faith that works by love and purifies the soul, so that Bible religion is exalted and made beautiful.
For this end teachers should come together at a favorable time to study the Word freely and compare ideas, that they may know how and what to teach students, laying aside preconceived opinions, coming to the Word as a lesson book, and searching to see whether these things are so as the noble Bereans did. In place of vain disputes believers are to maintain good works, for these are beneficial.
