Zechariah 1:14

So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

The cry to be sounded assures Jerusalem and Zion of the Lord's deep commitment to them at a time when the rebuilding work stands uncertain. It comes after seventy years of indignation have been fulfilled. The great jealousy announced is intense concern and covenant love for His people, expressing His purpose to show them compassion.

That jealousy also brings displeasure upon the nations that were at ease, because they made Judah's affliction worse than was intended. God has returned to Jerusalem with mercy and compassion, the temple there shall be rebuilt, and Jerusalem with the cities of Judah shall again prosper.
