Zechariah 10:11
And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart away. And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.
The verse declares that the pride of Assyria will be brought down and its power broken. It declares likewise that the rule and power of Egypt will be ended and its sceptre will depart away. The bringing down of Assyria is pictured as a great tree felled and lying fallen upon the ground.
That judgment upon those ancient nations stands as an object lesson for the end of time. God will in the same manner bring down nations that arrogantly oppose Him or that fail to fulfill His purpose for them. Their fall belongs to His final judgment upon proud opposing powers. In contrast to the fallen nations, those who keep the truth will enter into God's city and rejoice in His deliverance.
