Zechariah 5:4

I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

The verse pronounces God's curse against theft and against swearing falsely by His name, condemning dishonesty and misuse of His name. Stealing and false swearing are the sins it marks out for judgment, reaching into the offender's home to destroy it. The curse that God brings forth enters the house of the thief and of him that swears falsely, remains in the midst of his house, and consumes it with its timber and its stones. Not wood and stone only in a general sense, but timber and stones down to the very materials of the building are devoured, and the destruction reaches even to them.

The flying roll that carries this sentence measures twenty cubits by ten cubits, the dimensions of Solomon's temple porch. That roll declares this judgment across the earth, so that none are left unwarned. The wrongdoer's name is written in the roll unless he repents. The judgment for dishonesty thus falls upon the guilty and their households. It enters the homes of those who commit these sins and abides there, consuming house and materials.

God sees every transaction and brings judgment on those who do wrong, so that every evildoer receives from God according to his works. People are therefore accountable to God and must obey His word exactly. The law's condemnation that pursues thieves and false swearers cannot be silenced or escaped. It destroys the evildoer's peace, bears witness against the person at judgment, and finally consumes soul and body.
