Elderly Couple and Playing Children in Jerusalem's Streetsby emmanuel_higgins

Zechariah 8:3

Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.

After the captivity the Lord would return to Zion and dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. The restored Jerusalem would then be called a city of truth, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts the holy mountain. This promise belonged to Jerusalem's restoration and second probation after the exile, given to fulfill God's purpose for Israel in the centuries following the return from captivity and to prepare the world for Christ's first coming.

The bestowal of the promised blessing was made dependent on obedience, requiring the people to practice truth together with justice, mercy, and compassion. Though Israel was cared for and blessed, it failed to fulfill God's purposes.
