Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;
God will save His people and gather them from the east country and from the west country, from the lands of their captivity where they have been scattered. After the exile this gathering and restoration belonged to His purpose to restore Israel and thereby to prepare the world for the first coming of Christ. The blessings held out in that restoration were not unconditional, but depended on the obedience of the people.
That same gathering is a type of the spiritual restoration of Israel and is part of that restoration to take place before the end of time. As God then promised to save and gather His people from both east and west, so He will accomplish a spiritual gathering of Israel in the last days.
