Zechariah 9:14
And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south. And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.
The Lord is seen over His people, with His arrow going forth as lightning, with the Lord God blowing the trumpet, and with His going forth with the whirlwinds of the south. The Lord of hosts defends His people and saves them in that day as the flock of His people. Those saved are lifted up as stones of a crown, as crown jewels held high as an ensign, a banner, upon His land.
The darkness that covered the Gentile world came from the failure of the Jewish nation to bear fruit in obedience, self-denial, goodness, mercy, and compassion. Had they obeyed all His commandments, their light shining in good works would have led many to turn and glorify God. The promise embraces the whole world in the plan of redemption and reveals how great is His goodness and how great is His beauty. Grain and new wine, corn and new wine, stand as symbols of grace and plenty that make cheerful the young men and the maids, the young men and young women.
The arrow going forth like lightning, the trumpet blast, and the coming with whirlwinds signify Christ coming with power and with warning. He comes to fight for the prisoners of hope, to repay them double, and to destroy their enemies. He appears visibly over His people at the last day. This belongs to the second advent, the resurrection of the dead, and the final judgment and kingdom, and it expresses the hope that defines Seventh-day Adventists.
