Zechariah 9:15

The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.

The Lord of hosts will Himself defend His people. That defense brings them complete victory over their enemies, with rejoicing and fullness like bowls filled and like the corners of the altar. The next verse unfolds the same promise as the Lord their God saving them in that day as the flock of His people. They are precious to Him, exalted and lifted up in His land as crown stones, as a crown's jewels, a sign of His victory and honor.

Israel, bent as His bow and raised as His sword, was to shine light to the Gentile world. The darkness of the Gentile world came because the Jews neglected to bear fruit in obedience to all His commandments, in self-denial, goodness, mercy, compassion, and love for God. If that fruit had been borne, many would have been converted and would have glorified God. The promised defense and victory take place in the day of final conflict. That promise stands together with Christ coming again to receive His people, the resurrection of life, judgment given to the saints and their possession of the kingdom, the harvest and the winepress of wrath, the standing up of Michael with deliverance in the time of trouble and the awakening of the dead, the reign of Christ as King of kings, and the final judgment with the second death, and it gives reason for the Adventist name and hope. The verse belongs to the great plan of redemption that embraces the whole world.
