Zechariah 9:17
For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids. For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.
The verse stands at the close of God's promise to defend His people and to save them as the flock of His people. In that promise they are portrayed as stones of a crown, precious stones lifted up as an ensign or banner upon His land. That lifting up is given when they keep all His commandments and bear fruit in self-denial and goodness and mercy and compassion and love for God and integrity in His service.
Their exaltation in this way makes known how great His goodness is and how great His beauty is. Its corn and new wine are symbols of grace and plenty bestowed upon them. Their light shining forth in good works was to convert many in the dark Gentile world, leading them to glorify God for His great love and rich blessings by coming to know the only true God and to have faith in Jesus Christ.
In this the verse shows that the whole world is embraced in the great plan of redemption. Their exaltation stands forever as a testimony to His mercy.
