Zephaniah 1:4
I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests; I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;
God will stretch out His hand in judgment upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. That action will cut off the remnant of Baal from that place, removing its remaining worship together with its priests. The Chemarim named in the verse are the idolatrous priests to be removed with it.
This judgment belongs to the prophecy and warning of the approaching day of the Lord's wrath. It is the Lord's punishment of those who reject His authority and turn away from Him. The prophecy is fulfilled in the lives of people who had great light and opportunity to know God's ways but did not live by the truth. The judgment stands as a warning relevant to the present day.
