Zephaniah 2:1

Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired;

The call is to gather together, yea to gather together, and to take heed before the decree takes effect and brings judgment. There is still time before the day of the Lord's fierce anger and wrath and trouble and judgment arrives, and the gathering is to be done urgently before that day comes. The nation addressed is called not desired, and it is undesired because of its sin. In its original setting the warning concerns Judah's continued apostasy.

The gathering is an urgent call to seek the Lord and righteousness and meekness. Those who do so may be sheltered in the day of the Lord's anger, and this promise includes all the meek and those who have done what God commands.

The present time of probation is the opportunity to gather and to humble the heart and self before God, to receive His righteousness, to seek meekness, to seek God humbly, and to turn from self in preparation for the day of God and the coming crisis. The judgment warned of also applies to the judgment that will fall on an impenitent world at Christ's second advent. In the setting of the final conflict over worship, the call stands as a warning to take a side before judgment falls.
