Zephaniah 2:11
The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen. The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.
The nearness of the day of the Lord gives the verse its urgency as an alarm summoning all to seek righteousness and meekness. In that setting the Lord will be terrible in judgment upon the gods of the earth, famishing all of them. The heathen named here are the nations outside Israel.
The famishing is a figurative destruction accomplished by depriving the false gods of worship and support. That work of judgment turns some to worship the Lord. Men shall then worship him, every one from his own place, even in all the distant isles of the nations. This does not mean that every person or every nation will worship him, but that his scattered people throughout the earth will worship him wherever they are, grateful for his salvation.
