Zephaniah 2:14
And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the cedar work.
The verse foretells the downfall of proud Nineveh, the Assyrian city, into complete desolation. In its ruin flocks and the wild animals of the nations will lie down in the midst of her, dwelling among what remains. Both the cormorant and the bittern will lodge in the upper lintels of its buildings, nesting in its wrecked structures. Their voice will sing in the windows, sounding where human habitation once thrived. The uncovering of the cedar work describes the exposure and ruin of the city's once-grand structures, laid bare in judgment.
