A Shepherd Leads His Flock Among Ashkelon's Ruinsby emmanuel_higgins

Zephaniah 2:4

For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.

For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon made a desolation, Ashdod driven out at noonday, and Ekron rooted up, is a foretelling of the desolation and overthrow of the Philistine cities. It stands among the prophecies against wicked nations in a book whose burden is the great day of God's wrath. That chapter is a warning of coming judgment centered on that great day.

Its setting is a call to prepare for that day, urging all people to seek righteousness and meekness as the day of the Lord approaches, with even the meek bidden to seek meekness still. It belongs with Revelation 14, Isaiah 58, Joel 2 and 3, Zephaniah 1, and other scriptures to the warning message now being given to the world, in which light that is rejected brings condemnation.
