Zephaniah 3:12

I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

God Himself leaves and preserves in the midst a humble, afflicted and poor people who trust in the name of the Lord. Their leaving comes after God removes the proud. They are the purified remnant of Israel who do no wickedness or iniquity and speak no deceit or lies, with no deceitful tongue found in their mouth. They feed and lie down with no one making them afraid.

What follows portrays their security and joy when God is present among them, takes away their judgments, casts out their enemies, and saves them. The daughter of Zion is called to sing, shout and rejoice with all the heart because her judgments are taken away and her enemy is cast out, with the Lord as King of Israel in the midst so she will see evil no more. She is told to fear not and not let her hands be slack, for the Lord God in the midst is mighty to save and rejoices over her with joy, rests in His love, and joys over her with singing. He gathers those sorrowful for the solemn assembly, undoes all who afflict them, saves her who halts and gathers her who was driven out, and gives them praise and fame in every land where they were shamed. He brings them again and makes them a name and a praise among all people of the earth when He turns back their captivity. Those who realize the nearness of the Lord's coming should act their faith by showing interest when one of God's instrumentalities is languishing or in peril and by being one in mind and heart with heavenly intelligences, so they can be worked by them. When human stewards unitedly use the Lord's own substance to lift the burdens on His institutions, the Lord will cooperate with them.
