The Dollar Tract Package.

This dollar tract package will fill a long-felt want in the homes of our people. The tracts it contains have been very carefully selected, are up to date, cover the great fundamental features of the third angel's message, and are inexpensive.
There are 26 varieties, on ten subjects—117 tracts in all, containing 1,896 pages. Where there are two or more on one subject, they are wrapped separately, thus keeping the tracts on each subject by themselves.
The price of $1.00 does not cover transportation charges. What otherwise would be paid to Uncle Sam in postage you get in tracts. Would it not be well for you and your associates to club together and order a freight shipment from your tract society? Here is the list:

The Tobacco Question

We are glad to note the agitation that there is over the tobacco question. Of course it will not affect the great mass. Millions will go on paying their devotions to the nicotin deity the same as ever, but there are young men who will stop and think, and thinking, will act right. What a blessing it would be if the youth and young men of this country to-day would eschew tobacco forever. Entirely apart from the religious and moral phases, which are the greatest factors after all, what a mighty blessing it would be economically! Think of the farms and buildings and houses and property of various kinds in prospect, which are burned up at the end of cigars and cigarettes! But more than all else think of the finer elements of morality and keen sensitiveness which are consumed in the same way! Tobacco benumbs and stupefies. Every physician, every tobacco-user knows it. May not the use of tobacco for generations have something to do with benumbing of conscience as manifest in commercial circles to-day? Men come to that place where they are unable to discriminate between right and wrong, and if they do see it, conscience is so hardened that it becomes a matter of a joke rather than involving a serious moral principle. There is a real joy in being free from any enslaving habit, of being able to stand in one's own manhood, free from anything that would drag him down. Better it is, never to form such a habit, but if one has not strength to break from it in himself, he will find sufficient strength in the Lord Jesus Christ. Every tobacco user or whisky toper may be a free man in Him.

Archaeology and the Truth of God's Word

One of the striking features of the next Monthly Signs will be the testimony of archeology to the truth of God's word.

Messages to the Discouraged, Sinful Heart

Our Bible-reading on “The Sufferings of Christ,” and the article on “Sin and Its Cleansing,” are messages to the discouraged, sinful heart.

Living Above Disease

Doctor Godsmark offers some excellent suggestions on living above disease, in our Home Department, which ought to be real helpful to those who are looking for added health and strength.

The Great Malaysian Field

In our Missions Department we begin a series of eight articles on the great Malaysian field, the East Indian islands round and about Singapore, written by those who are right in the field themselves, laboring for the darkened and needy ones.

Preparing for the Resurrection

Our next issue is a Resurrection Number. The articles in this issue ought to prepare us for the next. Before resurrection there must be death; before our Lord's resurrection there was His crucifixion. Before the resurrection of human souls to a new life, there must be a crucifixion. The soul must pass through its Gethsemane and up its Calvary with Jesus if it is to know the power of His resurrection.

I Am Thy Part and Thine Inheritance

The article by Mrs. Adams, “I Am Thy Part and Thine Inheritance,” will be read with interest by all our Bible Band members, we are sure. The title is the message of the Lord to Aaron, and the article shows that richness of the message of truth which the writer obtained in her reading. It will be helpful not only to our Bible Band readers; it ought to stir up many others to become members.

Coming Articles on Modern Spiritualism

In our next week's issue we begin the series of articles on Modern Spiritualism, by Prof. G. W. Rine. These articles are intensely interesting and will be exceedingly helpful to all our readers. We trust that our friends will do all in their power to use them in extending the circulation of the SIGNS OF THE TIMES. There are millions who are being led away by “doctrines of demons.” Professor Rine's articles will be meat in due season to all such.

An Error

An Error.— We are glad of critical readers, glad that our mistakes get pointed out. We try to get this paper out each week without a mistake, but we probably always fail. One of our readers writes: “You quote, ‘God is Spirit.’ ‘His law is spiritual.’ Your first quotation is from the Bible. Is the second one?” No, we made a mistake. The quotation marks should have been between “His” and “law.” “We know that the law is spiritual,” is the scripture. Rom. 7:14. Of course, it is God’s law which is referred to, the Decalogue. See verse 7. It is the law which points out sin; and only God can truly do that. But we did not design to quote incorrectly.

Questions and Answers by Mail

Questions.—

We hope that our questioners who expect answers through the paper will have patience. We have our department full this issue, but have enough left over, which we could not print, for two papers, and enough more unanswered for another. If any of our questioners desire immediate answer, and are not members of our regular Bible Band, we will answer by mail, but we would like to request them to enclose ten cents for postage. We feel that this is but reasonable, because it takes time, sometimes much time, in order even briefly to reply to many of the questions which come in. Some of our readers remember to do this. Some of them through forgetfulness ask questions on postal cards and expect an immediate answer by mail. If the answers to the questions are not worth what is stated above, they are hardly worth the asking. But we are glad of the interest that is being taken in Bible study throughout the great field, and we want to do everything in our power to help it along.

Tides in the Solid Earth

Recent discoveries, scientists tell us, show that there is just as truly a movement in the solid part of the earth as there is of the tides. In other words, that there is a tide to the whole earth; very evident in its liquid part, but just as truly a fact in its solid materials. One of the great difficulties has been to determine it on account of the fact that the observation must be made from the earth itself, a most difficult thing to do, indeed, but new devices have been invented by which scientists have come to the conclusion that the earth itself swells and heaves periodically. This is another fact to show that God's universe is a living universe, and that the earth itself is a living body; but not as some of the philosophers have dreamed, with a conscious intelligent soul—that is another thing.

An Evidence of Conversion.

One of the best evidences of conversion is not a loud profession, but it is the life. Said a house mistress to her chambermaid one day: “I believe you have been converted, Maggie.” Maggie humbly replied that she did not know, but it seemed to be that a great change had come over her. Her mistress asked her, “How great a change, Maggie?” “Well, ma’am,” replied the maid, “since that revival I always sweep under the mats now.”

The Hour of His Judgment Is Come

The article on “The Hour of His Judgment Is Come,” in the great Threefold Message Series, is a little long, but we are sure that it will bear careful reading and earnest study. The Lord has said much in His word concerning the Judgment. Surely He does not wish His people to come up to that time when their cases will be decided, unwarned. After we have read the article on the Judgment, we will be better prepared to read the article by Mrs. White which follows: “Christ’s Revelation of God.”

General Conference Bulletin Subscriptions

Our next General Conference will be held in Washington, D. C., May 13 to June 6. A daily paper will be published in which complete reports will be given. Those who desire to obtain these complete reports will do well to send their subscription to the Bulletin at once, addressing General Conference Bulletin, Takoma Park Station, Washington, D. C. Particulars of accommodations in the way of board and lodging will be given in the Review and Herald. Also there will be information as to reduced rates.

A Unique Sermon.

The papers report a sermon of a minister in one of the central states, which was advertised as the story of the life of Christ according to St. Mark. The minister repeated verbatim the Gospel by Mark. This unusual sermon lasted seventy-five minutes. Mr. J. Wood Miller, the minister, states that he has repeated the book two thousand times in English, Scandinavian, and German. He did not begin to learn the book until he was thirty-five years old.

Boy Held for Ransom

Willie Whitla, eight years old, of Sharon, Pa., was stolen by kidnappers March 18, and is held for ransom. His father, James P. Whitla, is an attorney and the famous iron king. F. H. Buhl is his uncle. The sum of $10,000 is demanded. The messages from the kidnappers are written by the boy.

Paris Government Strike Paralyzes Public Services

Paris, France, is said to be in a fearful condition owing to a strike of government employees. Public service is paralyzed. Undelivered letters number millions and telegrams hundreds of thousands. Necessaries of life are running short, and at this writing there is no prospect of settlement.

Taft’s Inaugural Address

President Taft’s inaugural address is one of the longest on record, but it is evidently addressed not simply to Congress, but to the great American people. The thought in his mind seemed to be to take the people into his confidence and tell them just what his policies would be.

Taft Cabinet Members Average 57 Years

The average age of the nine members of President Taft’s Cabinet is 57 years, eight months. The oldest is James Wilson, the efficient Secretary of Agriculture, 74; the youngest, Frank H. Hitchcock, Postmaster-General, 42.
