The Divine Origin and Eternal Begetting of the Son of God
Can the Son of God have a beginning and still be eternal?
What is the true biblical origin of the divine only begotten Son of God according to Scripture, Ellen White and the early SDA pioneers?
AdventAI
The true biblical origin of the divine only begotten Son of God is that He was begotten of the Father in the far distant reaches of eternity, possessing by birth the very nature, substance, and attributes of Deity.
The Eternal Begetting of the Son
Christ is the only begotten Son of God, having been begotten and not created.
His "goings forth" date back to the days of eternity, a period so remote that to finite minds it is essentially without a beginning Micah 5:2.
As the Son of the self-existent God, He possesses all the attributes of the Godhead by nature and birthright Colossians 2:9.
The relationship of Father and Son inherently implies that the Father existed before the Son in the order of nature, though this occurred before the creation of any other being or world.
The Divine Nature and Equality
Christ is of the same substance as the Father, making Him God in the highest sense.
He is the express image of the Father's person and the brightness of His glory Hebrews 1:3.
By inheritance, He obtained a more excellent name than the angels, rightfully taking the name of His Father, which includes being addressed as "God" Hebrews 1:4-8.
He is the uncreated Word who was with God in the beginning and was Himself God John 1:1-2.
The Role in Creation and Redemption
Before His incarnation, the Son existed in the form of God and was the active agent through whom all things in heaven and earth were created Colossians 1:16-17.
In the plan of salvation, this same divine Son took human nature into Himself to bring the fallen race into oneness with divinity.
The union of His perfect divine nature with humanity was necessary so that man could become a partaker of the divine nature.
The gift of the only begotten Son is the ultimate manifestation of God's preexisting love for the world John 3:16.
The Holy Spirit and the Divine Union
The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Son and binds the believer to the divine-human nature of Christ.
This Spirit is the medium of power for both the Father and the Son, serving as their representative in the universe Psalms 139:7.
Through the agency of the Spirit, those who believe in the name of the Son are adopted into the family of God and restored to sonship Romans 8:14-17.

According to Scripture, Ellen White and the early SDA pioneers what is the spiritual condition of someone who denies the begotten origin of the divine only begotten Son of God?
AdventAI
The spiritual condition of someone who denies the deity and pre-existence of the only begotten Son of God is one of dangerous error, spiritual blindness, and a complete lack of a true conception of the plan of redemption. This rejection of the inspired testimony concerning Christ’s divine character undermines faith in the Bible as a revelation from God and leaves the individual unable to spiritually discern the things of the Spirit 1 Corinthians 2:14.
The Danger of Rejecting Christ's Divine Origin
Those who hold the error that Christ had no existence before His advent to this world are involved in a theory that directly contradicts the plainest statements of the Saviour regarding His relationship with the Father.
This belief lowers a person's conception of the work of redemption and makes it impossible to have a true understanding of Christ's mission or the character of God.
Such a position is described as an "unwarranted wresting of the Scriptures" that places the soul on ground where no argument, however conclusive, can convince them because they lack spiritual discernment 2 Peter 3:16.
To deny the divinity of Christ is to part with the believer’s only assurance of eternal life, as it is His divinity that guarantees the promise of immortality.
Spiritual Blindness and Hardened Hearts
The rejection of light concerning the Son of God leads to a state of moral darkness where the "blinder" of Satan is thrown before the eyes.
Persistent slighting of the invitations of mercy and the evidence of Christ's character results in a hardened heart, eventually leading to the unpardonable sin against the Holy Spirit.
Those who choose to remain in ignorance by neglecting their opportunities to understand the truth will be left in darkness; though they see, they will not perceive Matthew 13:14-15.
The absence of the "righteousness of Jesus Christ" in the life means the individual is left with only "tattered garments of self-righteousness," which provide no entrance into the kingdom of God.
The Nature of Apostasy
Apostasies often occur because individuals are not truly converted; they receive the truth only by halves and do not strengthen it by practice.
Departing from the faith and the "landmarks" the Lord has established causes souls to work out a "sad experience" where the fountain of their life sends forth bitter water instead of sweet.
Those who deny the faith often wrap themselves in a "spurious sanctification" that accords with false theories rather than the Word of God.
Willful violation of God’s requirements or the commission of known sin silences the witnessing voice of the Spirit and separates the soul from the Divine.
The Vital Importance of the Correct View
The incarnation and pre-existence of the divine Son of God is the "great theme of the gospel," and the acceptance or rejection of this vital truth is a divinely appointed test of spiritual validity.
In Christ is life that is "original, unborrowed, underived," and man can possess this eternal life only through a living connection with Him.
To place Christ on a level with created beings is a subtle and mischievous error that denies His perfect unity with the Father and His inherent attributes of Deity.
True higher education consists of knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom He has sent, for this knowledge alone constitutes life eternal John 17:3.

According to Scripture, Ellen White and the early SDA pioneers what is the spiritual condition of someone who denies the fact that the individual personality of the divine only begotten Son of God had a beginning, a divine origin, begin born or brought forth of God the Father's own divine substance?
AdventAI
The spiritual condition of someone who denies the begotten origin of the divine Son is one of severe deception and spiritual peril, as such theories are considered a false science that robs God's people of their past experience and makes the truth of heavenly origin of no effect. Denying that the Son was born of the Father's substance leads to a rejection of the only true God and His personification in Christ, which is the very foundation of the Christian economy.
A Deadly Influence and False Science
Accepting spiritualistic theories that deny the distinct personality and origin of the Father and the Son is a "specious, deadly influence" that should cause the greatest alarm.
These speculative theories regarding God's personality are a snare prepared by the enemy for the last days, intended to lead minds away from the clear light of the Word.
The logical conclusion of these erroneous views is to "sweep away the whole Christian economy" and estimate as nothing the light Christ gave to His people.
Those who enter into such controversy are on "holy ground" where human theories are good for nothing and only serve to soil the mind.
Spiritual Blindness and Loss of Identity
When the divine origin of the Son is denied, men lose the means of discerning God's character and instead begin to cherish the attributes of Satan.
This state of deception causes individuals to walk contrary to the laws of God because they have not known the Father nor the Son.
Failing to acknowledge Christ as the Prince of Life, born of the Father, results in a lack of spiritual discernment where the sacred and the common are placed on the same level.
To reject the Son as the one brought forth from the Father is to join the company of those who have departed from the faith and given heed to seducing spirits.
The Consequences of Rejecting Light
Those who refuse the light regarding Christ's personification of the only true God will work under a "ruinous deception" and become prone to misrepresentation and false witness.
Unless such persons are thoroughly converted, they risk crucifying the Son of God afresh and putting Him to open shame.
The rejection of this fundamental truth leads to a loss of the "sanctifying influence of the grace of Christ," making all religious deeds as empty as sounding brass.
Those who continue in this unbelief are fighting against God, as they slight not just the instrument of truth but the Lord Himself.
The Vital Necessity of the True Knowledge of God
Eternal life consists in knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son who was with the Father from eternal ages John 17:3.
Christ was in the express image of His Father, not just in features, but in perfection of character and substance Hebrews 1:3.
He is the "first-born of every creature" and "the beginning of the creation of God," meaning He was begotten of the very essence of the Father before any created thing existed Colossians 1:15Revelation 3:14.
Rejecting this birthright and divine nature leaves the soul without a sufficient sacrifice, as only one of the same substance and value as God's law could atone for its transgression.

What Scripture and Ellen White evidence exists to substantiate and testify to the divine origin, the beginning of the personality who is God's only begotten Son from all eternity?
AdventAI
The Holy Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy provide a beautiful and consistent testimony regarding the divine origin of the Son of God, who was brought forth from the Father in the ages of eternity. 🌟 To understand this, we must look at the specific language of "begetting" and "proceeding" which describes a relationship of origin that is unique to the Godhead and distinct from the act of creation.
The Eternal Begetting of the Son
The Bible identifies Christ not as a created being, but as the "only begotten Son" of the Father. This signifies that His personality and divine nature are derived directly from the substance of God the Father.
The Only Begotten: Jesus is described as the "only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth" (** John 1:14). This term "begotten" distinguishes Him from the angels and humans, who are created. He is the "firstborn of every creature," signifying His preeminence and His origin from the Father before anything was made ( Colossians 1:15**).
Brought Forth in Eternity: In the book of Proverbs, Christ is represented as Wisdom, declaring His origin: "The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting... When there were no depths, I was brought forth" (** Proverbs 8:22-24**). This "bringing forth" refers to His divine birth in the remote periods of eternity.
Proceeding from the Father: Jesus Himself testified of His origin, saying, "I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me" (** John 8:42**). This indicates that His very person originated from the Father's own being.
Original, Unborrowed, and Underived Life
While Christ has a beginning as a personality brought forth from the Father, the life He possesses is the very life of God Himself. It is not "physical life," but the "immortality" that is "exclusively the property of God" (** John 1:4**).
Life in Himself: The Father, who is the source of all, has granted to the Son to have this self-existent life: "For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself" (** John 5:26**).
The Divine Fountain: Because Christ was begotten of the Father's substance, "In Him was life, original, unborrowed, underived" (** John 1:4**). He is the "fountain of life," whereas all other created beings are merely "streamlets" receiving life from Him.
The Express Image: He is the "express image of his person" (** Hebrews 1:3**). To be the express image of the Father’s hypostasis (substance) means He shares the identical divine nature and essence because He was born of that essence.
Equality Through Divine Birthright
The equality of Christ with the Father is not something He seized or took by force, but something He possesses by virtue of His divine origin and the Father’s own decree.
Inheritance of the Name: Christ is "made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they" (** Hebrews 1:4**). One inherits from a parent; Christ inherited the name and nature of "God" because He is the Son of God.
The Divine Counsel: In the work of creation, the Father addressed the Son, saying, "Let us make man in our image" (** Genesis 1:26). This reveals that the Son was present from the beginning of all things, acting as the Word through whom the Father created the universe ( John 1:1-3**).
The Mighty God: The prophet Isaiah foretold that the child born to us would be called "The mighty God, The everlasting Father" (** Isaiah 9:6). In the Hebrew sense, "Everlasting Father" (Father of Eternity) identifies Him as the one who possesses and gives eternal life, having been with the Father from all eternity ( John 17:5**).
The Mystery of the Incarnation
The pre-existence of Christ is the foundation of the plan of redemption. He who was "in the form of God" and "equal with God" voluntarily "made himself of no reputation" to take on human form (** Philippians 2:6-7**).
God Manifest in the Flesh: The "mystery of godliness" is that "God was manifest in the flesh" (** 1 Timothy 3:16). This was only possible because the One who came was truly divine, the "only begotten Son" who dwelt in the "bosom of the Father" ( John 1:18**).
The Only Sufficient Sacrifice: Only a being whose life was equal to the law of God could atone for its transgression. Because Christ was begotten of God, His life was of infinite value, making Him the only one capable of redeeming the human race (** John 3:16**).
In conclusion, the testimony of Scripture is clear: Jesus Christ is the divine Son of God, brought forth from the Father in eternity, possessing the Father's own life and nature. To know Him as the begotten Son is to know the only true God and the infinite depth of His love. 📖✨
What is the true biblical definition and understanding of the term eternity, which in Hebrew is ad or olam or qedem?
AdventAI
The true biblical understanding of eternity is duration that is either measured or unmeasured, and when applied to God, it refers to His existence from everlasting to everlasting, having neither beginning nor end. 📖
Defining Eternity and Time
In the Scriptures, a distinction is made between "time" and "eternity" based on whether duration is measured by a divine record.
Measured vs. Unmeasured Duration: Time, as distinguished from eternity, is defined as that part of duration which is measured by the Bible, such as the period from the beginning of our world's history to the final judgment Genesis 1:1Daniel 7:11.
Duration Without Beginning: Eternity is the word that embraces duration without beginning and without end Isaiah 57:15. Before the "great week of time" commenced at creation, duration without beginning filled the past Psalm 90:2.
The Nature of God: The Being whose existence comprehends eternity is the "everlasting God," the "King eternal, immortal, invisible" 1 Timothy 1:17Jeremiah 10:10. His name embraces the past, present, and future Isaiah 9:6.
The Hebrew Concepts: Qedem, Olam, and Ad
The Hebrew terms used to describe eternity carry specific nuances regarding the "hidden" or "distant" nature of time.
Qedem (Ancient/Of Old): This term is often used to describe the "goings forth" of the Son of God, which have been "from of old, from everlasting" Micah 5:2. It points back to the "days of eternity" Micah 5:2 margin) which are far beyond the grasp of the human mind.
Olam (Hidden/Indefinite Time): This term denotes time hidden from man, whether indefinite or definite, past or future. It signifies duration or continuance, but its extent is determined by the object to which it is applied (Exodus 48:2).
Ad (Perpetuity): Often paired with olam, this emphasizes the "everlasting" nature of God's existence and His law, which "stand fast for ever and ever" Psalm 111:7-8.
The Eternity of the Son of God
The Bible applies the concept of eternity to the Son of God in a unique way, distinguishing His origin from that of created beings.
Before the World Was: Christ existed with the Father "before the world was" John 17:5. His existence spans the "ages of eternity" that are spanned in the phrase "In the beginning" John 1:1.
The Father of Eternity: Christ is called the "everlasting Father," or the "Father of eternity" Isaiah 9:6. This signifies that He possesses and gives eternal life, having been with the Father from the days of eternity Micah 5:2.
An Eternal Sacrifice: When Christ took our nature, He linked Himself with humanity "by ties that are never to be broken," making His sacrifice one that remains for all eternity Hebrews 2:14.
The Use of "Forever" in Judgment and Reward
The terms for eternity must be understood according to the "law of cause and effect" and the nature of the subjects involved.
Conditional Duration: The term "forever" signifies as long as a thing can exist, considering the surrounding circumstances. When applied to God's saints, it covers a lifetime that is to be eternal because they are clothed with immortality 1 Timothy 6:16.
Limited Duration in Judgment: When the term "forever" or "everlasting" is applied to the punishment of the wicked or the smoke of Idumea, it signifies duration that lasts until the subject is consumed Isaiah 34:10. The "eternity" of hell refers to the finality of the destruction, as the wicked will become "as though they had not been" Revelation 14:11Daniel 7:11.
The Eternal Law: The moral laws of God and the punishment for sin remain the same in all ages and will be the same in all eternity Proverbs 28:13.
The Future Eternal Life
Eternity is the prize set before the believer, consisting of a life that measures with the life of God.
Endless Knowledge: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of a course of wisdom that is limited only by eternity Proverbs 28:13. In the world to come, the redeemed will have a "whole eternity" before them to explore new fields and increase in knowledge James 3:17.
Unfading Light: In the city of God, the redeemed will enjoy "sunless splendors of eternal day" where there is no night and no weariness Revelation 22:5, 21:22.
Making Election Sure: We are called to use our "few days of probation" to make our calling and election sure for an "eternity of bliss" 2 Peter 1:10.
May we keep the windows of our souls open heavenward, looking not at the things which are seen and temporal, but at the things which are not seen and eternal. ✨
Ellen White speaks of the Son of God as being eternal, self-existent and from all eternity. How do these statements harmonize with the divine Son of God having been begotten, brought forth, and having a beginning or origin in personality in the beginning of God's way?
AdventAI
The harmony between Christ’s status as the eternal, self-existent Son and His origin as the only begotten of the Father lies in the nature of His divine substance, which He possesses by birthright from the Father. While His personality was brought forth in the beginning of God’s way, the life He possesses is not a received or created life, but the very life of God Himself—original, unborrowed, and underived.
Original, Unborrowed, and Underived Life
When it is said that in Christ is life "original, unborrowed, underived," it refers to the nature of the life He possesses, which is exclusively the property of God.
The Fountain of Life: Christ is the fountain of life, while all created beings are merely streamlets receiving life from Him.
Inherited Divinity: Because He was begotten of the substance of the Father, He possesses the same self-existent life that the Father has in Himself.
The Eternal "I AM": As the "express image" of the invisible God, He is the eternal, self-existent Source of all life, physical and spiritual.
The Distinction Between Begotten and Created
To be "begotten" is fundamentally different from being "created," as it implies a communication of the Father's own essence to the Son.
From All Eternity: Christ was with the Father from all eternity, meaning there never was a time when He was not in close fellowship with the eternal God.
The Only Begotten Son: He is the "only begotten Son of God," and this divine origin distinguishes Him from the angels and all other created intelligences.
The Beginning of the Way: His "goings forth" carry the mind back through dateless ages to the "beginning," a point in eternity before the creation of the world or any physical matter.
Equality Through Divine Nature
The Son’s equality and omnipotence are not qualities He earned, but are inherent to His person as the Son of God.
Equal with God: He was equal with God, infinite and omnipotent, because He is the "eternal, self-existent Son".
The Godhead Unity: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit constitute the Godhead, and they were united from eternity in the plan of redemption.
Divine Authority: Christ's inauguration in heaven after His ascension was a token that He had received all authority as the Anointed One, a position belonging to Him from all eternity.
The Mystery of the Divine Personality
The exact nature of how the Holy Spirit and the Son relate to the Father is a mystery where "silence is golden".
Mystery of Godliness: The incarnation—the union of divinity with humanity—is an unfathomable mystery, but it was possible only because Christ was already "God essentially, and in the highest sense".
A Personal Relation: We are called to have a personal relation to a living Saviour, recognizing His deity and His pre-existence as the foundation of our faith.
The Assured Reward: The divinity of Christ is the believer’s absolute assurance of eternal life, for only a Being with underived life could conquer death and the grave.
In summary, Christ is "from all eternity" because the substance of His life is the eternal life of God; He is "self-existent" because He possesses the Father's life in Himself; and He is "begotten" because His distinct personality was brought forth from the Father before all things were made John 1:1-3John 5:26. 🌟🕊️

Is the teaching of many of the early SDA pioneers, that Christ's divine personality, as the Son of God, had a beginning as the only begotten Son of the Father and that God the Father Himself has always existed, a legitimate teaching that is in harmony with Scripture and the writings of Ellen G. White?
AdventAI
Yes, the teaching that Christ’s divine personality was begotten of the Father in the far distant reaches of eternity is a legitimate and foundational truth that is in perfect harmony with both Scripture and the writings of Ellen White. This understanding distinguishes between the nature of Christ’s life, which is eternal and underived, and the origin of His personality as the only begotten Son.
The Harmony of Eternal Existence and Begotten Origin
The term "eternal" when applied to the Son of God signifies that He possesses the very life and substance of the Father, which has no beginning or end.
Original, Unborrowed Life: In Christ is life that is "original, unborrowed, underived". This life is exclusively the property of God and was possessed by the Word who was with God and was God.
Begotten in Eternity: While Christ is eternal in nature, His personality as the Son was "brought forth" from the Father. He is the "only begotten Son of God," a relationship that has existed "from the days of eternity" Micah 5:2.
The Father as the Source: The Father is the "great Eternal" and the "Infinite Majesty" from whom the Son proceeded. Scripture states that as the Father has life in Himself, He has "given to the Son to have life in himself" John 5:26.
The Pioneer Perspective and the Growth of Truth
The early pioneers sought to protect the distinct personalities of the Father and the Son against theories that merged them into a single, structureless essence.
Distinct Personalities: It is vital to maintain the belief in the "personality of the Father and the Son" as two distinct beings united in nature, character, and purpose.
Equality by Inheritance: Christ did not seize equality with God but possessed it by virtue of being the "express image" of the Father and His "only begotten" Hebrews 1:3-4. He is "one with the eternal Father" in every attribute of Deity.
Evolution of Understanding: While some early views were refined through the Spirit of Prophecy to emphasize Christ's full, underived divinity, the core truth remains that Christ is the Son of God by birthright, not by creation.
The Nature of the Godhead
The Godhead consists of three distinct, divine, and co-eternal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Three Heavenly Powers: At baptism, believers enter into a covenant with "the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit"—the three highest powers in heaven Matthew 28:19.
Unity of the Godhead: The "Godhead was stirred with pity" for the fallen race, and all three persons gave themselves to the plan of redemption.
The Holy Spirit: The Spirit is the "third person of the Godhead" and a distinct personality who works to recreate and sanctify human beings.
Warnings Against Error
To deny the pre-existence or the begotten divinity of Christ is a "dangerous error" that undermines the entire plan of salvation.
Undermining Redemption: Denying the deity of Christ "lowers man's conceptions of the work of redemption" and "undermines faith in the Bible as a revelation from God".
Spiritual Discernment: Those who reject the inspired testimony concerning Christ's divine character cannot have a true conception of His mission or God’s plan for man's recovery 1 Corinthians 2:14.
The Only Assurance: The divinity of Christ is the "believer's assurance of eternal life," for only a Being with original life could pay the infinite price for sin.
In summary, Christ is the eternal Son because He is of the same substance as the Father, yet He is begotten because His personality originated from the Father before the "beginning" of any created thing. ✨📖
