The Eternal Divinity of Jesus in Ellen White's Writings

How can Jesus be both the eternal 'I AM' and a mortal man?

What say Ellen White about Jesus is God

AdventAI

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the express image of the invisible Father, and possessed all the fullness of the Godhead bodily before He ever came to this world. While He took upon Himself the nature of man to redeem us, He remained fully divine, being the great "I AM" who spoke to Moses at the burning bush Exodus 3:14.

The Divinity of Christ as a Fundamental Truth

The deity of Christ is a vital fundamental question that must be definitely believed and proclaimed. To deny His divinity or His pre-existence before His birth in Bethlehem is a dangerous error that undermines the entire plan of redemption and contradicts the plainest statements of the Scriptures. Without a firm grasp of Christ’s divinity, it is impossible to have a true conception of His mission or the character of God.

Divinity Clothed with Humanity

The mystery of the incarnation is a profound subject that we should approach with the deepest humility and reverence.

  • The Humiliation of God: The Prince of Life took a tremendous step when He left His Father’s throne, clothing His divinity with humanity so that He could reach us where we are.

  • A Perfect Union: In Christ, divinity and humanity were combined; as the Son of Man, He gave us an example of obedience, and as the Son of God, He gives us the power to obey.

  • Veiled Majesty: While He walked the earth, Christ veiled His divinity and did not appear as God, yet there were moments when His divine glory flashed through His human guise, revealing His true majesty.

The Power of His Divine Nature

Because Christ is God, He has the all-sufficient power to save every soul and heal the wounds that sin has made.

  • Our Representative: Christ is the only one sufficient to represent the Deity to the world, revealing the character of God through a life of perfect purity and submission.

  • Our Intercessor: Having paid the redemption price through His blood, the risen Christ now stands in the presence of God as our Advocate, Substitute, and Surety.

  • Source of Life: As the "I AM," He is the Good Shepherd, the living Bread, and the Way, the Truth, and the Life John 6:51.

The Witness to His Divinity

Throughout His life and even at His death, overwhelming evidence was given of His divine nature. The angels heralded His birth, His miracles testified to His authority, and even the Roman centurion at the cross was compelled to acknowledge that He was the Son of God Matthew 27:54. By accepting Christ as our personal Saviour and becoming partakers of the divine nature, we are united to Him and receive the power to overcome as He overcame 2 Peter 1:4.
