Gathering Spiritual Manna: The Importance of Morning Devotionals
Does the spiritual manna disappear after the sun rises?
In terms of the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy when are we no longer able to get manna? Does it matter that we get up before the rising of the sun to do devotionals or can you still get the manna even after sunrise as long as it is before midday?

The privilege of gathering the heavenly manna is tied to our daily spiritual hunger and the consistency of our devotion, though the opportunity to receive this spiritual life-giving bread remains available to all who sincerely seek it before the close of earth's history. While the literal manna in the wilderness ceased once the children of Israel entered the land of Canaan and began to eat the fruit of that land, the spiritual manna remains a daily necessity for our souls today.
The Timing of Spiritual Seeking
Seeking the Lord in the early morning is a beautiful and effective practice for receiving spiritual strength 🌅.
A Pattern of Early Devotion: Jesus Himself frequently chose the early morning to search the Scriptures and engage in prayer before the duties of the day began.
Refreshing the Soul: Arising early to seek the Lord brings a sense of gratitude, peace, and spiritual invigoration that prepares one for the day's journey.
Consecration of the Morning: Starting the day with prayer and meditation at four or five in the morning allows the heart to be filled with the goodness of God and ensures that we are guided by His eye throughout the day Psalms 32:8.
Morning Meetings: Gatherings held at six o'clock in the morning have proven to be times of great blessing where the Spirit of the Lord works on hearts.
When Manna is No Longer Available
The "manna" we receive today—which is the Word of God and the life of Christ—is vital for our survival until our journey is complete.
Loss of Relish: We lose the ability to receive this heavenly manna when we lose our appetite for it through the reading of frivolous stories or by choosing the excitement of the world over the search for truth.
A Divided Heart: If the door of the heart is closed to the light from God's throne in favor of worldly theater or performances, the soul will eventually lose its hunger for God and its power to contemplate eternal problems.
Barren Pastures: Those who refuse to appreciate the light God sends or who justify the transgression of His law will eventually find their souls destitute of the heavenly manna, much like the hills of Gilboa were destitute of dew and rain.
Eternal Destiny: The literal manna was a type of Christ; while the fathers who ate the physical manna are dead, those who continue to feed on Christ, the Bread of Life, will live forever John 6:58.
The Purpose of the Manna
The Lord provides this spiritual food to develop a pure and healthy people for His kingdom.
Daily Appropriation: We must eat this bread daily by making the principles of truth a part of our very lives.
Spiritual Strength: Just as temporal food strengthens the physical system, partaking of the Word of God gives us the spiritual sinew and muscle needed to meet any crisis.
A Test of Obedience: The gathering of manna was historically used to test the people's loyalty to God's requirements, specifically regarding the sanctity of the Sabbath.
The Lord is always ready to hear those who knock and to give to those who ask, regardless of the specific hour, provided the heart is fully surrendered to Him Matthew 7:7. However, the world is currently starving for this manna, and we must not neglect the opportunity to feed upon it while the light of truth still shines.
