The Investigative Judgment: Unveiling God's Heavenly Court
What is the investigative judgment and how does it determine eternal destiny?
What is the investigative judgment?
AdventAI
The investigative judgment is a crucial and solemn process occurring in the heavenly sanctuary, where the lives of God's professed people are examined to determine their eternal destiny before Christ's second coming 🙏.
Here's a closer look at this important work:
What is the Investigative Judgment?
It is a preliminary work of judgment, distinct from the executive judgment that takes place at Christ's coming or at the end of the millennium.
This judgment focuses on determining who among the righteous are accounted worthy of eternal life and the first resurrection.
It is identified as the "hour of God's judgment" proclaimed in the first angel's message, bringing us to the commencement of this solemn work Revelation 14:6-7.
The investigative judgment is also synonymous with the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary, where Christ performs His final work of atonement for His people.
When and Where it Began
This solemn work commenced in 1844, marking the close of the 2300 prophetic days mentioned in Daniel 8:14.
The judgment session takes place in the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary, where the "Ancient of Days," God the Father, presides as Judge.
Christ, our great High Priest and Advocate, enters this apartment to engage in the last acts of His ministration on behalf of humanity. He pleads for His people, showing their penitence and faith, and claiming forgiveness for them.
Heavenly beings, "thousand thousands" and "ten thousand times ten thousand" angels, minister and stand before God during this judgment Daniel 7:9-10Revelation 5:11.
Who is Judged and What is Examined
The investigative judgment primarily considers the cases of God's professed people, those whose names are written in the book of life. The judgment of the wicked is a separate work that occurs later.
The process begins with the righteous dead, with their cases passing in review before God, and then proceeds to the living.
Heavenly "books" are opened, containing a faithful record of every person's life, including words, deeds, and even secret motives Ecclesiastes 12:14Malachi 3:16Matthew 12:36-37Romans 2:161 Corinthians 4:5Revelation 20:12.
Characters are measured by the standard of God's holy law, the Ten Commandments, which is seen in the ark of His testament in the heavenly temple.
Purpose and Outcome
The main purpose is for the blotting out of sins for those who have truly repented and claimed Christ's blood as their atoning sacrifice Acts 3:19.
If sins remain unrepented and unforgiven, names will be blotted out of the book of life Exodus 32:33Revelation 22:19. If found worthy, names are retained, and sins are blotted out Revelation 3:5.
This judgment determines who is accounted worthy to escape the coming calamities and stand before the Son of Man, and who will be prepared for translation or the first resurrection Luke 21:36.
It also involves the "sealing" of God's people, settling them intellectually and spiritually in the truth so they cannot be moved, and having their cases eternally decided for heaven Revelation 7:1-3.
The conclusion of Christ's priestly office and His coronation as King of kings occurs at the close of this judgment.
Individual Responsibility
Given the solemnity and ongoing nature of this work, it is impossible to exercise the necessary faith without understanding the position and work of our great High Priest.
Everyone has a case pending before God, and it requires earnest, prayerful study of the Word of truth, humble heart-searching, and confession of sins Leviticus 23:29-30.
We are called to perfect holiness in the fear of God and to examine our own hearts for defects, rather than judging others 1 Peter 4:171 John 3:3.
Our lives must be in harmony with God's commandments, as this is the standard by which character is weighed Revelation 14:12Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.
