Meaning of Following the Lamb in Revelation 14:4
Does following the Lamb happen on earth, in heaven, or both?
In Revelation 14:4, it says, “These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.” Are they following the lamb while they are on the earth, wherever the lamb goes, or is this something that they do when they get to heaven? What does the phrase follow the lamb wherever he goes mean?

The 144,000 follow the Lamb both through their dedicated experience on earth and as a special, eternal companion group in the heavenly courts. This following represents a life of total consecration and self-denial in this world that translates into a unique privilege of accompanying the Savior throughout the universe forever.
Following the Lamb on Earth 🌍
Following the Lamb begins here and now as a matter of character and daily experience.
A Living Connection: To follow the Lamb on earth means to have a daily, living connection with God and to walk in the light as He is in the light.
Self-Denial and Sacrifice: It involves taking up the cross, denying self, and choosing the narrow path of holiness Mark 8:34.
Total Obedience: This group is characterized by those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, refusing to bow the knee to the "Baal" of modern apostasy Revelation 14:12.
Preparation for Translation: By following Christ now, believers are fitted for the high vocation of standing with Him on Mount Zion.
The Three Angels' Messages: In the final days, following the Lamb means accepting and moving with the light of the threefold message of Revelation 14.
Following the Lamb in Heaven ☁️
In the future state, the 144,000 occupy a position of distinct honor and proximity to the Savior.
A Special Bodyguard: This company acts as the personal escort or bodyguard of the King, taking the place made vacant by the fall of Satan and his angels.
Traveling the Universe: Their privilege is to accompany the Lamb as He goes from world to world, viewing the handiwork of God throughout the unfallen universe.
Serving in the Temple: They are redeemed from among the living and serve God day and night in His temple, enjoying an intimate companionship described as "following Him whithersoever He goeth" Revelation 7:15.
United Experience: Because they followed Him through the great tribulation and the time of Jacob's trouble on earth, they alone can learn the "new song" of their specific deliverance.
What "Whithersoever He Goeth" Means 🐑
The phrase "whithersoever He goeth" carries both spiritual and geographical significance.
Divine Companionship: It denotes a state of intimate and divine companionship to which the Redeemer admits this specific group.
To Every Place: While it implies imitating His example, it refers more specifically to the localities and places the Lamb travels in the afterlife.
A Shared Journey: It signifies that as the 144,000 were one with Him in suffering and conflict on earth, they remain one with Him in glory and travel in heaven 2 Timothy 2:11-12.
The Seal of Love: They bear the Father's name—which is love—in their foreheads, reflecting the character of the Lamb in every place they visit Revelation 14:1.
By following the Lamb through trial and self-sacrifice now, the 144,000 secure the eternal reward of never being separated from His presence.
