Understanding One God the Father in 1 Corinthians 8
What does it mean for the Father to be the ultimate source of all things?
What did the apostle Paul mean when he stated, "to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things" when he previously stated there are gods many and lords many. Is the main point that God, the Father, is the one divine Being in the universe of whom are all things, for He alone hath immortality and He alone receives supreme honor, and He alone is the Source of all being? Even the Son is OF GOD and the Spirit is OF GOD and OF CHRIST. Ellen White states, "God is the Father of Christ; and Christ is the Son of God" and this is a simple and profound truth.

5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

The apostle Paul’s declaration that "to us there is but one God, the Father" establishes the Father as the supreme Source and the ultimate authority of the universe, from whom all things—including the life of His Son—originally proceed 1 Corinthians 8:6. This simple and profound truth clarifies that while many beings are called gods, the Father is the one self-existent being who alone holds immortality inherently and serves as the great Source of all life and virtue 1 Timothy 6:16.
The Father as the Supreme Source
The main point of this passage is to identify the Father as the "one God" in the sense of being the original Fountain from which all things flow.
The Source of All: Paul distinguishes the Father as the one "of whom are all things," meaning that all beings and even the plan of redemption itself originated in His infinite mind and love 1 Corinthians 8:6.
The Only True God: Jesus Himself affirmed this when He addressed His Father as "the only true God," identifying Him as the ultimate Sovereign of the universe John 17:3.
Inherent Immortality: The Father is the "Life-giver" who alone has immortality dwelling in light and life, whereas all created beings are dependent recipients of life from Him 1 Timothy 6:16.
The Relation of the Son to the Father
The divinity of Christ does not contradict the supremacy of the Father, because Christ Himself "proceeded and came forth from the Father".
Derived Life: While the life of Christ is "original, unborrowed, underived" in its nature, it is a life that the Father "gave" the Son to have in Himself John 5:26.
The Agent of Creation: Paul explains that while all things are of the Father, they are by or through Jesus Christ 1 Corinthians 8:6. The Father wrought through the Son in the creation of all heavenly beings Colossians 1:16.
The Express Image: Christ is the "express image of his person," meaning He is the perfect representation of the Father’s personality and character to the universe Hebrews 1:3.
The Simple Truth of the Godhead
The relationship is exactly as the Scriptures state: God is the Father of Christ, and Christ is the Son of God.
Distinct Personalities: The Father and the Son are two distinct personages, not one and the same being. The Father is the head of Christ, just as the man is the head of the woman 1 Corinthians 11:3.
The Holy Spirit: The Spirit is the "Spirit of God" and the "Spirit of Christ," serving as the divine agency through which the life and presence of the Father and Son are communicated to the soul Romans 8:9.
Ultimate Restoration: When the work of redemption is complete, the Son will deliver up the kingdom to the Father and "the Son also himself be subject" to Him, so that the one God and Father may be "all in all" 1 Corinthians 15:24-28.
A Faith Built on Authority
This understanding protects the soul from dangerous errors that either deny the deity of Christ or misrepresent the personality of God. By accepting the Bible as it reads, we see that the Father is the Supreme Sovereign, the Son is His equal and only begotten representative, and the Spirit is their omnipresent life and power working for our salvation Matthew 28:19. 🌟
