Why Miraculous Healing Differs Today Compared to Jesus' Time

Why are miracles no longer a definitive proof of divine power today?

Why should we not expect mirakel healing as at Jesus time

While miracles of healing were a primary characteristic of Christ's ministry, we should not expect them to manifest in the same open and widespread manner today because Satan will use counterfeit miracles and "lying wonders" to deceive the world in the final days 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4. God’s servants are instructed that the performance of miracles will no longer serve as a definitive proof of divine endorsement, as spiritualism and other satanic agencies will claim to possess the same power Revelation 13:14.

The Danger of Counterfeit Miracles

In this age, Satan has introduced a "masterpiece of deception" through various forms of spiritualism, including mind-cure, magnetic healing, and "Christian Science". These systems often involve one mind controlling another, which destroys the individuality given by God and places the person under satanic influence. Because these spurious works of healing claim to be divine, God's people must rely on a "sanctified mind cure" and an educated faith rather than outward signs.

  • Satanic Deception: Spirits of devils are currently working miracles to prepare the world for the great final battle Revelation 16:14.

  • Spiritism: Many healers attribute their power to latent forces within the mind, electricity, or magnetism, which is actually a trap set by the enemy.

  • The Law of God: True healing by faith is always wrought by the Word of God and leads to the keeping of His commandments, whereas many popular revival movements perform signs while teaching people to ignore the Ten Commandments.

A Focus on Spiritual Healing

The renewing of the heart is a far greater miracle than the restoration of the physical body. Christ's work was always intended to symbolize this higher reality; for example, healing the blind served as a symbol of Him being the Light of the World. Today, the focus is placed on the following:

  1. Medical Missionary Work: God has ordained that physical healing be blended with spiritual healing through the use of simple, natural remedies and the education of the soul.

  2. Character Building: We are called to educate others in self-denial and the development of a character that can withstand the "lying wonders" of the last days.

  3. The Science of Salvation: True healing is found in accepting Christ as a personal, sin-pardoning Saviour, which restores both the soul and the body.

The Role of Faith and Prayer

The gift of healing still remains in the church as one of the diversities of the Spirit’s operation 1 Corinthians 12:9. While we should not expect a public display of miracles like those in the early church, the prayer of faith remains an effective agency when offered in accordance with God's will James 5:14-15. God continues to answer the earnest petitions of His people, but He often works through the cooperation of the human agent with divine laws of health. We are encouraged to store our minds with God's promises and trust in His power to sustain us, even when open miracles are withheld for the trial of our faith.
