The New Earth: A Glorious and Transformed Eternal Home
What is the New Earth like, and when will it appear?
Description of the new earth
AdventAI
The New Earth is a glorious, transformed realm where righteousness dwells, serving as the eternal home for God's redeemed people 2 Peter 3:13. It will not be annihilated, but rather purified by fire and renewed to a state more glorious than its original Edenic beauty.
Here's a closer look at its description:
A Transformed Creation
The current heavens and earth, scarred by sin, are reserved for fire, after which they will pass away 2 Peter 3:7. From these melted and dissolved elements, a new heaven and a new earth will be formed, having no resemblance to this sin-cursed world, but rather to the perfect Garden of God. This transformation will fulfill the promise that God "makes all things new" Revelation 21:5.
Abolition of Suffering and Sin
On the New Earth, all former troubles will be forgotten and hidden from God's eyes Isaiah 65:16. There will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain, for the former things will have passed away Revelation 21:4. This means there will be no more sickness, doctors, funeral directors, stress, or accidents. The universe will be a place from which sin is forever banished.
Restored Edenic Beauty and Abundance
The New Earth will be restored to its primitive beauty and holiness, exceeding the glory of Eden at creation. The wilderness and solitary places will be glad, and the desert will rejoice and blossom like a rose, reflecting the glory of Lebanon, Carmel, and Sharon Isaiah 35:1-2. There will be beautiful rivers, clear as crystal, and streams breaking out in the desert Ezekiel 47:8Isaiah 35:6. Noxious weeds, thorns, and thistles will be gone, replaced by beautiful, never-fading flowers. The animal kingdom will live in perfect peace; the wolf will dwell with the lamb, the leopard with the kid, and a little child will lead them Isaiah 11:6-9.
The redeemed will engage in active, purposeful lives, building houses, planting vineyards, and eating their fruit, enjoying the work of their hands for a long time Isaiah 65:21-22.
The New Jerusalem
The Holy City, New Jerusalem, will descend from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband Revelation 21:2. This city, the metropolis of the glorified New Earth, is a crown of glory, shining like a jasper stone, clear as crystal, with its walls built of jasper and streets of pure gold Revelation 21:11, 18, 21. The Mount of Olives will be rent asunder to become a mighty plain for this Paradise of God to rest upon. It will have twelve foundations, bearing the names of the twelve apostles, and twelve gates, each a single pearl, bearing the names of the twelve tribes of Israel Revelation 21:10-14. God's light will lighten it, so it will have no need of the sun or moon Revelation 21:23.
Life with God and the Tree of Life
The tabernacle of God will be with men, and God Himself will dwell with them, being their God Revelation 21:3. A pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, will flow from the throne of God and the Lamb Revelation 22:1. On either side of this river will be the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month, and its leaves will be for the healing of the nations Revelation 22:2. Eating from this tree will sustain eternal life and restore the redeemed to the full stature of humanity's primeval glory.
Eternal Worship and Peace
In this New Earth, the Sabbath will continue to be a day of joy and worship. From one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh will come to worship before the Lord Isaiah 66:22-23. The earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea Isaiah 11:9.
The appearance of the New Heavens and New Earth will occur after the end of the one thousand years, when the wicked are destroyed and the earth is purified by fire. It is then that the saints will inherit the earth and reign forever, dwelling in abundance of peace Psalm 37:11, 29Daniel 7:18, 27.
