Moses and the Resurrection of the Dead

Moses taught that the dead are dead. And the scripture teaches (John 5:45-47) that believing the writings of Moses is essential to a belief in Christ as the Saviour. When Moses taught the resurrection of the dead, he showed that it was necessary in order that they might again have life. The Sadducees denied the resurrection, and Christ refuted their position by referring to Moses. “As touching the dead, that they rise; have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?” To this Christ adds, “He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living.” Mark 12:26, 27. So the resurrection of Abraham is essential to God’s being the God of the living and yet the God of Abraham. Altho dead, Abraham is reckoned as living in the purpose of God to raise the dead. His life is “hid with Christ in God.” See Col. 3:3, 4.
