New White Star Liners

Two immense ocean leviathans are being turned out in Belfast for the White Star Line, the Olympic and Titanic; each of which is 840 feet long, with a capacity of 60,000 tons. The tonnage of the Mauretania is only 31,938. These ships are not to be built for speed, but for convenience of passengers. Each ship will be able to carry 5,000 persons, the crew alone numbering 600. On each will be a swimming bath sufficiently deep to permit of diving, and the cabins are to have private shower and slipper baths. There will be also gymnasiums and play rooms, with extensive ballroom and skating-rink. The principal dining-room will seat 600. Another feature is gardens with cool avenues of Oriental palms.

A Priest and Evangelist Debate Baptism

Clippings have been sent us of the Eugene Daily Guard containing a discussion between a priest and an evangelist. Really the priest has the better of the argument. The question is over baptism. If the evangelist had stayed by that ground alone there would have been very little question over the discussion; but he wandered too far, and the Catholic priest caught him up on the Sabbath question, showing that there is just the same ground exactly for sprinkling that there is for Sunday observance; namely, the Roman Catholic Church.

God’s Church and Babylon

Just as long as God’s church cleaves to Him and makes His Word the lamp of her feet and the light to her path, just as long as her standard is “the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus,” poor and imperfect and undeveloped she may be, she is still God’s church. Not until she turns from God and sets up her own standard or drags His ensign down, does she become part of Babylon.

Saved from Sin

God did not give His Son to die that man might go on in sin and condemnation, but that he might be justified, saved, from sin. Jesus Christ does not give His life that we may sinfully, selfishly use it, but that we may live above sin and “soberly, righteously, godly, in this present world.” Whatever we believe, if we miss these great facts of living truth, we miss all.
