The Scriptures reveal that music has a profound power to soothe a troubled mind and drive away spiritual oppression.

• Charming Away Melancholy: When King Saul was troubled by an evil spirit, he was advised to seek out a "cunning player on an harp." When David played with his hand, the evil spirit departed, and Saul was refreshed and made well 1 Samuel 16:15-17.

• Dispelling Dark Clouds: David used his harp to elevate his mind to God, the Author of every good gift. These strains of music dispelled the dark clouds of anxiety that shadowed his future 2 Samuel 22:1-7.

• Elevation of Thought: Sacred music lifts the leaden weight off the spirit, cheers the sad heart, and smooths the troubled brow, bringing the mind into communion with the Creator Psalm 42:11.

• A Medicine for the Whole Being: The consciousness of right-doing, expressed through grateful praise, is one of the best medicines for diseased bodies and minds, bringing new life to the entire being Psalm 34:18-19.
