What are the five pillars that define the Adventist faith?
Give me bible verses for each of the SDA five "S's" Sabbath, State of the dead, Sanctuary, etc
AdventAI
The Five "S's" represent the foundational pillars of the gospel message that prepare a people for the second coming of Christ. 📖✨
1. Sabbath 🌅
The Sabbath is a perpetual sign of our relationship with God and a core requirement of His holy law. It was established at creation and remains a test of loyalty for God’s people in the final days.
** Exodus 20:8-11** – "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God..."
** Genesis 2:1-3** – God blessed and sanctified the seventh day at the very beginning of the world.
** Revelation 14:12** – The remnant people are identified as those who "keep the commandments of God."
** Exodus 31:13** – The Sabbath is a sign between God and His people that He is the Lord who sanctifies them.
2. State of the Dead 😴
Death is a state of unconscious sleep. This truth is a vital safeguard against the delusions of Spiritualism and the "spirits of devils" that will work miracles in the last days.
** Ecclesiastes 9:5-6** – "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten."
** Psalm 146:4** – When a man dies, "his breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."
** Job 14:12-15** – Man lies down and does not awake until the heavens be no more; he waits in the grave for his "change" to come at the resurrection.
** Psalm 115:17** – "The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence."
** John 11:11-14** – Jesus explicitly compared death to a sleep from which He must awaken His friends.
3. Sanctuary 🏛️
The sanctuary doctrine explains the work of Christ as our High Priest. It reveals that in 1844, at the end of the 2300 days, Jesus entered the Holy of Holies to begin the investigative judgment and the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary.
** Daniel 8:14** – "And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed."
** Hebrews 8:1-2** – We have a High Priest who ministers in "the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man."
** Revelation 14:7** – The first angel proclaims, "Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come."
** Daniel 7:9-10** – Describes the judgment scene where "the judgment was set, and the books were opened" before the Ancient of Days.
4. Second Advent ☁️
The personal, literal, and visible return of Jesus is the "blessed hope" and the climax of the plan of salvation. It is the event that brings the resurrection of the righteous and the translation of the living saints.
** John 14:1-3** – Jesus promised, "I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
** Acts 1:11** – "This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."
** 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17** – "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout... and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds."
** Revelation 1:7** – "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him."
** Matthew 24:30** – All tribes of the earth shall see the Son of man coming with power and great glory.
5. Spirit of Prophecy (Spiritual Gifts) 🕊️
God promised to guide His remnant church through the gift of prophecy. This gift is essential for the unity of the faith and to provide certainty regarding our position in prophetic history.
** Revelation 12:17** – The remnant keep the commandments and have "the testimony of Jesus Christ."
** Revelation 19:10** – Defines the "testimony of Jesus" as "the spirit of prophecy."
** Ephesians 4:11-13** – Spiritual gifts, including prophets, are given for the "perfecting of the saints" and "the unity of the faith."
** Joel 2:28-29** – A promise that in the last days, God would pour out His Spirit and His people would prophesy.
** 2 Chronicles 20:20** – "Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper."
May these scriptures strengthen your faith as you prepare for the soon-coming King! 🙏✨
