Squaring with Destiny
Earlier text: Is Death a Sleep?

IS THERE LIFE BEYOND THE GRAVE?

If Death Is a Dreamless Sleep, How Can Life Be Resumed?

Is there life beyond the grave? This is a question that has been much debated for many generations, and from many varying standpoints. The operations of nature afford no affirmative answer to the inquiry, but bear positive negative testimony. In fact, every rule of logic is against it. Must one therefore conclude that the few short, disappointing years of human life tell the story of eternity's plan in behalf of man — a creature so highly endowed with comprehensive and inventive faculties as to rank far in advance of every other class of animated beings?
This problem is one that an ancient patriarch debated with much clearness. His observation taught him that a man's days were few, and filled with anxiety and care, after which he was cut down, to appear no more among his kind. The great question was next presented, What becomes of him? Was he left as a thing to be forgotten forever? Even the root life of a dumb tree might replace the first growth, hewn down by the woodman's ax; but nothing of the kind was observable regarding the noble structure of man. When cut down in death, his life is entirely snuffed out, so that no spark is left from which to kindle anew the man that once was.

Can Life Be Resumed After Death?

AFTER viewing the question from many angles, and finding that in some way man had forfeited the last element of life, which nature affords even to the plants of the forest, he concludes that if man does live after passing off the human stage, it must be through some power outside of himself. So, after asking direct the question, "If a man die, shall he live?" his faith settles the point, and he quietly says, as though talking with God: "All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. Thou shalt call, and I will answer Thee." Job 14: 1-15.
From "Miss. Review of World"
From "Miss. Review of World"
There is, in fact, no other method by which man can be made to live, after having once yielded up life. Sin having entered his system, he is deprived of the power of life; because the sin he permitted to find entrance within, became the "sting" of death in the fullest sense (1 Cor. 15: 56), thus executing the fiat of Heaven, "In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Gen. 2: 17.
The apostle fully recognized this point, and was therefore led to say emphatically, "The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Rom. 6: 23. Had man not sinned, the element of continued life would have been his forever; but since that privilege was forfeited, life after death can be resumed only as a gift of God through Jesus Christ.

Death a Dreamless Sleep

DEATH has ever been recognized as a dreamless sleep, from which none have ever awakened except through a special dispensation of God's grace. More than this, no one who is born into this world has any prospect of perpetuated life beyond the grave except by virtue of the added life of Jesus Christ. True, Enoch passed on to eternal bliss, because "God took him." Gen. 5: 24. Elijah reached the undying state by ascending to the presence of God in a "chariot of fire" specially prepared for his conveyance thither. 2 Kings 2: 11. Moses also took bodily flight from the valley over against Beth-peor, upon being raised from the dead by Michael, who is Christ. Compare Deut. 34: 6 and Jude 9 with Dan. 12: 1; 1 Thess. 4: 16; and John 5: 28.
But from the words of Christ to Nicodemus, it is clear that all these had received that life which is more than human; for in that interview, He plainly stated that "except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3: 3. This requirement demands that a new life, one that has never suffered the taint of sin, shall, in some mysterious way, known only to the Founder of redemption, be transfused into the needy human soul, in order to restore it to the standing of God's image, which was lost by sin.
This can come only from Him who has "life in Himself" to bestow, and thus become the "everlasting Father" to those who receive Him and His power of eternal life. This done, and though one yields up the human life which sin demands, the hour comes when "all that are in the graves shall hear His voice, and shall come forth." John 5: 28, 29.

Will Come from Their Dusty Beds

IN view of this positive assertion by the Giver of life for the reward of faith, an inspired apostle attempts to reveal the time and manner of such an event. Writing to a people who seemed to be troubled about the future of deceased friends, he says: "I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him." 1 Thess. 4: 13, 14.
This seems a most natural conclusion when one stops a moment to think of it; for as Jesus has "the power of an endless life" (Heb. 7: 16), being "made higher than the heavens" (verses 25, 26), and therefore "continuing ever," because, as the Son of God, "it was not possible that He should be holden" in death (Acts 2: 24), is it not plain that those who are His by faith, and who are to be forever with Him and behold His glory (John 17: 24), should also be raised from the dead, as was He who is their everlasting Father?
This scripture is not intended to convey the idea that those of whom the apostle speaks are already in heaven, and will come from there with Him to earth; but that as He was brought from the grave by the voice of God, so all who share His life by faith, will also be brought forth from their dusty beds after the same manner.
This thought is confirmed by what immediately follows in the divine exhortation. Thus we read: "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent [or go before] them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself [not a substitute] shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first." 1 Thess. 4: 15, 16.

His Voice Penetrates the Tomb

So those who "sleep in Jesus" cannot be forgotten, from the fact that His sheep hear His voice at that time as well as when they listened to it amid the dead issues of human pilgrimage.John 5: 25-29. Quickening power is in that triumphant voice as it penetrates the vaults of the sleeping ones, and they respond to its demands as in former times. But those who turned a deaf ear to its earlier entreaties, will be heedless to its summons now.
But happy are they whose senses are thus quickened by the trump attending the advent of our Lord. These are borne aloft by strong angels to the welcoming arms of Jesus (Matt. 24: 31), who sits in midheaven. They will hear His invitation, "Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Matt. 25: 34.
This gracious benefaction extends not only to those who have awakened from their long sleep to the realization of their hope, but it includes as well those who live to witness the Lord's descent from heaven, and exclaim with ecstatic joy at the sight: "Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for Him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation" (Isa. 25: 9); for these, with the others, are "caught up" "to meet the Lord in the air."
But the best of this prospect is that all who have part in this last-day demonstration will "ever be with the Lord," and be permitted to bask in the sunshine of His eternal glory. Matt. 13: 43. Believing this, why should not one be able to comfort others with such a hope? There can be no other so thrillingly satisfying as this.

APPROPRIATED BY THE DEVIL

The Popular Millennial View as Far from the Truth as Heaven Is from Earth

A N interesting editorial appeared in the August number of the King’s Business, under the heading, “The Devil’s Monopoly.” It follows: “For a generation, we have been boasting of our great inventions. We have looked with supercilious contempt upon past generations, that have not discovered or invented the telephone, the telegraph, the automobile, the aëroplane, wireless telegraph, etc. These certainly were great discoveries and inventions, and capable of immeasurable usefulness; but to-day, across the water, they are almost entirely monopolized in the service of the destruction of men, women, and children. They were taken, two or three years ago, as sure signs that the world was getting better, and that the millennium was just at hand; but now even the ambassador of our nation cannot have an automobile for his own use in Berlin, because all the gasoline is monopolized for war automobiles and the destruction of human life attendant upon war. Telegraphic communication by cable and by wireless is largely monopolized in the interests of the military in the various lands at war. The most notable use of the telephone is in communication between trenches dug for the destruction of the men on the other side. The aëroplane and the dirigible are used almost exclusively for war purposes, and are reaping an awful toll of women, children, and noncombatants murdered. These are indeed ‘grievous times.’ If we are in the millennium, it is the devil’s millennium, not Christ’s.”
Earnest, thoughtful men everywhere are beginning to sense the “grievousness” of the times. Many of the former self-appointed heralds of the approaching millennium have become silent. And true it is that the twentieth century entrance upon the golden age is not very impressive when stated in plain prose and cold facts.

Inexcusable for Their Failure

YET Bible students and teachers were inexcusable for their failure to discern the truth. In clear and unmistakable language was it written that “evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived”; that “in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be . . . fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” 2 Tim. 3: 13, 1-5.
The popular belief that the saints will be on this earth during the millennium is as far from the truth as heaven is from earth; for the saints will be in heaven, and not upon earth, during that thousand years. The popular view is based upon the fallacy of the world’s conversion. But according to the Bible, this fond hope, however desirable, will never be realized. There will be two and only two classes when Christ comes — the righteous and the wicked.

Resurrected a Thousand Years Apart

THE Bible unquestionably teaches that there will be two resurrections, one of the righteous dead, and the other of the wicked. These two resurrections are separated by an interval of one thousand years. The millennium opens with the resurrection of the “blessed and holy.” It closes with the resurrection of “the rest of the dead” — the wicked. Rev. 20: 6, 5.
At the second coming of Christ, the holy of all ages will be resurrected, and the living saints will be translated.
“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent [precede] them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thess. 4: 15-17.
Thus the millennium opens with every righteous person removed from the earth.
From 2 Thess. 1: 7-10, we learn that all the wicked who are living when Christ returns will be destroyed by the brightness of His coming. “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power; when He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.”

Earth Utterly Depopulated

As the wicked dead “live not again until the thousand years are finished,” it must be apparent to all that the earth is utterly depopulated during the millennium.
Let no one be deceived by the false hope of another chance during the millennium. It is the devil’s death lullaby. The millennium will close with the destruction of all who refuse to obey God in the present age. Rev. 20: 7-10; 21: 8. Then from the wreck and ruin of this old world shall appear the “new heavens” and the “new earth” all glorious, and which will be the eternal home of the righteous. Rev. 21: 1-5.
Have you placed your trust in Jesus, or are you trusting in some mistaken and fanciful scheme of future opportunity? If we are not safe now, we are not safe at all. If we do not accept Jesus before He comes the second time, we will be utterly lost. Life is short, and the end important. We cannot afford to be mistaken.

The Right Foundation

"EVERY building erected on other foundation than God's word, will fall. He who, like the Jews in Christ's day, builds on the foundation of human ideas and opinions, of forms and ceremonies of man's invention, or on any works that he can do independently of the grace of Christ, is erecting his structure of character upon the shifting sand. The fierce tempests of temptation will sweep away the sandy foundation, and leave his house a wreck on the shores of time."

The Church and Civil Aid

IT may be safely said that no live, working, spiritual church ever asked civil aid, or enforced human laws to promote its operations. For a church to turn to the world for help is always an evidence of weakness. It shows that she has forsaken the Fountain of living water for the broken cisterns of men. M. C. W.

The Twin Sister of Gossip

A Satanic Trait That Was Implanted in the Heart of Man

By Mary Alice Hare Loper

THE first sin that ever darkened the universe of God was that of jealousy. Lucifer, the anointed cherub, occupying in heaven the exalted position next to Christ Himself, became jealous — jealous of the Son of God — and cherished this sinful trait of character until he lost his position, lost the blessed association of holy beings, and was banished from the courts of heaven.
But the sin of jealousy did not stop with the sad experience of Satan in heaven; for when he as lightning fell to this earth, he brought with him all his jealousy, and implanted this fiendish tendency in the heart of man, where it has lived and flourished from that time to this.
Jealousy wrought sad havoc in the first family of earth. Because God approved of right-doing in Abel, and disapproved of wrong-doing in Cain, Cain became jealous, and took the life of Abel — the first murder that blotted the pages of human history; the first example of its kind in all the universe. And could we but behold the lengthened list of murders caused by jealousy since that time, could we know the vast numbers of innocent victims to fiendish distrust, surely we would stand aghast before the awful spectacle.

Human Birds of Prey

"JEALOUSY is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame." S. of S. 8:6. Jealousy burns into the very vitals of human happiness, making of innocent people targets for the vilest thrusts. It paints in midnight colors the spotless reputation, maligns the character that is pure as snow, and places upon the black list of moral delinquents fair names which Heaven cherishes in the Lamb's book of life.
Hannah More apostrophizes thus:
"O jealousy, Thou ugliest fiend of hell! Thy deadly venom Preys on my vitals, turns the healthful hue Of my fresh cheeks to haggard sallowness, And drinks my spirit up."
Jealousy may be termed a symptom of a species of insanity for which the possessor should consider himself responsible. The example of the archfiend is never safe to follow. The soul who imitates Satan will fall, and will find himself in the demoralizing company of human birds of prey — vultures who love to feast upon dead carcasses of gossip, and relish that which is vile and loathsome.
Some neighborhoods possess inquisitive characters whose own legitimate work is left undone while they seek secretly to ascertain how others are prosecuting theirs. The old saying, "Eavesdroppers never hear any good of themselves," surely is not without foundation; for a person of that character is not likely to be a favorite in the community.

The Real Calamity Howlers

JEALOUSY is the twin sister of gossip. Both enjoy the same atmosphere, and subsist upon much the same diet. What one knows, the other loves to hear, while both exert themselves to be fully up to date, or indeed prophetic. And they are real calamity howlers, prophesying for others domestic troubles that will never come to pass. They have vivid imaginations, which make mountains of molehills, and crimes of mere indiscretions.
The church possesses many jealous members whose Christian experience is not such as to insure a prosperous and safe journey to the holy city. As yet, their hearts are centered in this world. They imagine that they should occupy places of prominence which have been accorded to others; and because of this, they are jealous of those holding the coveted offices, are disagreeable and unhappy. The jealous church member needs to have a new experience. He needs to be thoroughly converted, that he may possess the humbleness of a little child.
How beautiful it would be if every one would weave into the web of his everyday life the golden thread of divine love, "Let each esteem others better than themselves"! But how few, even of the professed followers of Christ, cheerfully step aside in the path of life to permit some one else to pass on the way to higher attainments! How much more natural to remain as a hindrance, cherishing the sentiment, I have not yet reached that height, and I do not want that other soul to reach it! Many refrain from encouraging and assisting others to reach higher altitudes of usefulness, seemingly for fear they themselves may become less prominent thereby. But the fact is, one never loses his own place on the ladder of success by reaching down to help some one in need of assistance. "There is always room at the top."

The Victim of a Morbid Imagination

JEALOUSY in the home kills the sacred plant of love, and brings in bitter estrangement between husband and wife, causing untold misery and the blighting of life's fondest hopes. Many divorces are the result of jealousy; and the myriads of ruined homes from this one cause, eternity alone will reveal.
If permitted to do so, jealousy will so permeate the entire being that one will be kept in a state of constant turmoil, and be the victim of a morbid imagination. The wife may come to believe that she is not loved as she should be loved; the husband may imagine that he is not honored as he should be honored. Each may consider the other lacking in due appreciation of superior excellence — truly a harrowing state of mind to cherish!
The husband who is jealous of his wife, and the wife who is jealous of her husband, would better leave imagination entirely out of the controversy. They would better look at things in a sensible way, and be careful not to cherish the spirit of evil surmising; for oh, how often —
"Trifles, light as air, Are to the jealous, confirmations strong As proofs of Holy Writ"!
Children should not be permitted to cultivate the habit of being jealous of one another. Parents should carefully guard this point, by being so impartial in their treatment of their children, that slumbering jealousy shall not be early brought to notice.
The sons of Jacob had a sad experience because of the older brothers' jealousy of Joseph. And many sons of other families since that time have been very unhappy because of jealousy, that "green-eyed monster" which, if allowed to cross the threshold of the home, is sure to become a disturber of the peace.
The Bible has a list of many sins of which humanity is guilty; and while there are heinous sins of the imagination, there is no such thing as an imaginary sin — no such thing as a person's being guilty simply because some other person imagines him to be so.

Worse than Poison Ivy

WEEDS are of the earth earthy, while flowers are of heavenly origin. But, sad to say, many a heart garden is as overgrown with weeds as was the vineyard of the slothful man described by Solomon in Prov. 24:30, 31.
I knew of a man, years ago, whose heart garden was so grown up to weeds of jealousy that he could scarcely see his wife present a neat appearance in the home without surmising that she was expecting to receive some man friend. The poor woman was exceedingly miserable. The husband also was wretched. Both filled untimely graves.
The poison from the weed of jealousy is much more virulent than that from poison ivy or poison oak, in that it may destroy the soul as well as the body. Yet many persons cultivate jealousy from as senseless a cause as that of the case above mentioned.
If a young man or a young woman is jealous of a prospective life companion, it is hazardous to presume that the marriage ceremony will eradicate this miserable trait of character, which seeks to heap blame upon one who is innocent. A person does well to remember that it is much better to part before marriage than after, and to beware of the person who is cherishing this phenomenal characteristic of evil.
There is such a thing as "godly jealousy," of which the apostle Paul makes mention. Every one should cultivate that jealousy which demands that the sincere affections of his heart be constantly given to Christ. And while the affections are centered in Christ, how easy it is to adjust the little differences that creep into everyday life!
When husband and wife are one in Christ, the eavesdropper, the gossiper, the scandal-monger, and all other human vultures, find such a starvation diet that they seek a different location, where there is more to satisfy their gruesome appetites.
Any method one can pursue that will aid and honor the gospel of Christ, any service one can render that will assist souls in keeping their affections placed upon Him, is surely commendable.
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee."
Could we but behold the lengthened list . . . since that time.
Could we but behold the lengthened list . . . since that time.

Pork and Cancer

Alarming Ravages of Cancer Inseparably Connected with Flesh Eating

By Daniel H. Kress, M. D.
"Why did God make the swine, if it is not to be eaten? — For the same reason that He made the rat, the cat, the mouse, and other scavengers."
"Why did God make the swine, if it is not to be eaten? — For the same reason that He made the rat, the cat, the mouse, and other scavengers."
IN the classification of unclean animals as recorded in Leviticus 11 is one whose flesh is found on the table of almost every American's home. It is the swine. "The swine," says the scripture, "is unclean to you. Of their flesh shall ye not eat." This is language too plain to be misunderstood or misapplied.
Again in Deut. 14:8 it is repeated, "Ye shall not eat of their flesh." Shall we take the position that the swine was an unclean animal, and unfit for human food, in the days of Moses, but that the prohibition does not apply to the present? There has been no change, at least none for the better, in this creature. The pig is still an unclean animal; and if it is still unclean, the command, to those who would glorify God in body and spirit, still is, "Of their flesh shall ye not eat."
It seems strange that in Christian homes, where the Bible is supposed to be the rule of life, pork should be eaten. Evidently Dr. Adam Clarke found it difficult to harmonize the practice of pork eating by Christians with the teaching of God's word. When invited to invoke God's blessing upon a meal including pork, he once said: "Lord, bless this bread, these vegetables, and this fruit; and if Thou canst bless under the gospel what Thou didst curse under the law, bless this swine's flesh." That he did not highly esteem swine's flesh is evident; for he once said that if he were to bring a burnt offering to the devil, he would choose a pig stuffed with tobacco.

Why Was the Pig Made?

THE question arises, Why did God make the swine, if it is not to be eaten? — For the same reason that He made the rat, the cat, the mouse, and other scavengers. These creatures all serve a useful purpose. They eat up decaying matter, which would pollute and poison the air. If a hog discovers the putrid body of another hog, he will devour it with the keenest relish and gusto. The hog will eat snakes, rats, cats, or mice, dead or alive. Is there need of any further evidence that this creature is unclean? And if it is unclean, is it not unsuitable for man as food?
There was a time when I was rather fond of sugar-cured ham. One day, I called at a butcher shop to make my usual purchase. The butcher said, "We have none to-day." And then, to my surprise, he added, "The stuff is not fit to eat." He gave me his reasons for thinking so. They appealed to me with such force that I concluded to deny myself, ever after, sugar-cured ham. In slaughter houses, pigs are kept for the chief purpose of eating up the entrails and other refuse from animals that are slaughtered. This butcher had closely observed the habits of the hog; and without knowing what the Bible says, he voiced the word of Scripture, "Of their flesh shall ye not eat; . . . they are unclean to you."
To convert this butcher seems to have been easier than it is to convert some people who profess to be obedient to the heavenly vision.
In referring to this class, the Lord said: "I have spread out My hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, . . . which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels." Isa. 65:2-4. Certainly it is displeasing to God to have those who claim to obey His word, eat the flesh of swine.

Paves the Way for Cancer

GOD withholds no good thing from His people, and never has. He says, "Eat ye that which is good." Isa. 55:2. Pork, being an impure food, fills the blood with impurities, which pave the way for various filthy diseases, chief among which is cancer. Cancerous tissue grows only in filth.
Pork produces grossness of body and of mind. Some one has well said, "He who eats pig becomes pigified." This is not an extreme statement. Look around among your friends, and see if you cannot single out the pig eaters. True culture and refinement are seldom found in one who feeds largely on pig. A person cannot partake of such gross foods without defiling the body — God's temple — physically and morally.
Daniel, when commanded to eat the meats on the royal table of Babylon, "purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with . . . the king's meat." Daniel was blessed with health and long life. He was blessed spiritually. Those who subsisted on the king's food, shortened their lives thereby, and their gross mental state made it impossible for God to communicate with them. It meant physical and spiritual death to them.
Paul, in addressing the Christian church, said: "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy." 1 Cor. 3:16, 17. They that eat "swine's flesh . . . and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the Lord." Isa. 66:17. This is not an arbitrary exaction on God's part, but it is the sure result of pursuing a course contrary to His established laws and will. It is simply a matter of sowing and reaping. Pork eating is one of the fleshly lusts which war against the soul, and it may shut men who cling to its use out of the kingdom.

Increasing by Leaps and Bounds

M. M. VERNEUIL, of Paris, an eminent investigator, after careful research and observation, concluded that cancer was caused most frequently by the eating of pork. In fact, he questioned whether this was not the sole cause. He says, "In the course of a long and laborious surgical career, it was observed that the Israelites who follow closely the law of Moses respecting the use of pork as an article of food are always refractory to cancer."
M. Roux, of Lausanne, gives his experience as confirmatory of the conclusions reached by Verneuil. While the use of pork is not the only cause of cancer, yet cancer is increasing at a tremendous rate in all flesh-eating countries. Indeed, it is practically confined to these countries, and to flesh eaters in them. In all flesh-eating countries, pork forms one of the leading foods used.
While pork may not be an exciting cause of cancer, it certainly is a predisposing cause. I mean, by this, that it prepares the tissue soil for this abnormal growth. Ehrlich, a famous German investigator, found that when mice were fed on a diet of rice, they could not be inoculated with cancer; and when fed on meat, the implanted cancer tissue developed quickly, and caused the death of the animals so fed. He also found that when cancerous mice were put on a purely rice diet, the tumors ceased to grow, and in some cases actually disappeared.

Eats 130 Pounds of Meat

IN Great Britain, there are cities where the death rate from cancer is already greater than that from tuberculosis. Dr. L. Duncan Bulkley, the noted American skin and cancer specialist, in referring to this, calls attention to the fact that the use of meat in England has doubled during the past generation, until now they consume 130 pounds each year for every man, woman, and child. During the time that the use of meat has doubled, cancer, he says, has increased fourfold.
In the United States, the annual consumption of meats per capita is higher than in England. It has reached 172 pounds. Cancer also has increased to an alarming extent. Dr. Charles Reed, ex-president of the American Medical Association, says: "I am no alarmist, but I cannot shut my eyes to the facts that are forced upon me in my daily experience. That experience teaches me that cancer is increasing in this country literally by leaps and bounds. Tuberculosis causes more deaths than any other one disease. Cancer is now second on the list. In less than ten years, if present tendencies are permitted to continue, their position in the death-dealing category will be reversed."
With this much-to-be-dreaded disease so rapidly on the increase, and in view of the universal testimony of experts that it is a meat eaters' disease, pork being the most objectionable of all flesh foods in use, it is not difficult to conclude that the free use of swine's flesh is possibly the chief cause of the tremendous increase in mortality from cancer. Would we not therefore do well to follow the command, "Of their flesh shall ye not eat"?
